With his daughter away for the year on a magic show tour, Phoenix’s life is upended enough as it is. The realization that his childhood best friend and courtroom rival may be in love with him, and the complicated feelings that come with that, are the last things he needs.
Written for narumitsu week 2020, each chapter loosely based around the prompts: family, marriage, free day, pining, opposites, AU, hurt/comfort, and future.

Summary
Miles was under no illusion that his feelings were reciprocated. There was a limit to how much he was willing to indulge his wildest fantasies, and that Phoenix might one day confess an undying love, or – heaven forbid – kiss him was so far beyond the realm of possibility that it was laughable. It was so improbable that he wouldn’t allow himself to even entertain the thought, lest his runaway heart got the wrong idea.
(Not that it stopped it some days. Sometimes Miles wished he could open up his ribcage and strangle his stupid heart until it behaved itself.)
That was fine. Miles would be satisfied if they stayed nothing more than friends. That was more than what he could ask for, more than what he deserved. It would be enough.
The problem was, every now and again, Phoenix did something that got his hopes up.
Miles Edgeworth’s relationship with Phoenix Wright was so complicated that it took them a decade to sort it out. Or: on Miles and Phoenix through the years.

'Whoever this is better have a good reason for calling me,' he thought furiously, fumbling for the answer button. “Hello?” he said. “This is Miles Edgeworth.”
“Hi Mr. Edgeworth, do you think Pops killed my mom?”

Summary

Their relationship starts out well, but Miles isn't the most open of individuals, and a long-instilled fear of how others will react to their relationship keeps him hesitant about even mild shows of affection where others can see. As things progress and their lives change, Miles decides to take a family vacation to somewhere no one knows Phoenix Wright or Miles Edgeworth, and the likelihood of anyone caring about a gay couple with a child is smaller. Getting over one's doomed romantic feelings for Phoenix Wright was a simple task: give the man polite distance, focus on one's career, and contemplate a Phoenix Wright-less version of the future where one was somehow happy.
Notice that these steps did not include pushing a shopping cart alongside Phoenix Wright, trading flowers with Phoenix Wright's young daughter, or going to Phoenix Wright's home to celebrate Phoenix Wright's stupid, endlessly endearing made-up holiday.
Miles did this to himself. He deserved it.
(Or: Phoenix & Trucy celebrate "Discount Candy Day": the day after Easter, when all the chocolate bunnies are on sale. Edgeworth is regretfully dragged along.)

After a series of odd events, Edgeworth temporarily takes in a cat. Things just get weirder as he ends up in danger again, narrowly escaping death. That is, until he doesn't and wakes up to find himself a ghost staring at his own body. His new cat seems to be the only one with the ability to stop this from happening.

Summary
The synonymity of Phoenix with terminus is a terrifying thing. Something earth-shattering. The ache is felt in the very core of Miles’ body. Under his flesh, deeply embedded in his bone marrow. He is always a careful traveler, eyes keen like a lamb’s horizontal, prey eyes whenever he takes a step out in public.
He is not scared of returning to Phoenix.
He is, however, scared of everyone else knowing their inextricability, the implications bleeding past the personal and into the legal system they’ve been swallowed in.
Or, Miles and Phoenix's precariousness throughout the Dark Age of Law. What does it mean to go beyond the narrative of the legal system?

But Edgeworth doesn't know if it is right to give into his feelings when he is lying to Phoenix.
