Summary
Beca should’ve known better than to agree to anything Stacie suggested at a party.
It starts innocently enough—music too loud, cups already half-forgotten on every surface, the Bellas piled into a corner like they always are. Someone—probably Stacie Conrad—gets bored, which is always dangerous.
“We should all take the Rice Purity Test,” she announces, like it’s a completely normal group activity.
There’s immediate chaos. Aubrey protests. Fat Amy encourages it. Cynthia Rose is already grabbing someone’s phone. And somehow—because her life is a series of deeply questionable decisions—Beca ends up being the one to pull it up.
“Fine,” she mutters, thumb already scrolling. “I’ll take it. But I’m not reading my answers out loud.”
“No fun!” Stacie whines.
Beca ignores her, leaning back against the arm of the couch, phone angled toward herself. The questions start easy, dumb, whatever. She breezes through them, expression flat, occasionally huffing under her breath.
She doesn’t notice when Chloe drifts closer. Or when that bright, curious gaze drops to her screen. Or how long it stays there.

Summary
The Bellas’ House always got too warm after a show.
It was the kind of warmth that came from bodies packed into small spaces and music pushed too loud through blown-out speakers. The windows were cracked open even though it was cold outside, thin streams of night air slipping in to fight the heat. It smelled like cheap beer, sugary liquor, and the faint citrus of someone’s body spray.
Beca leaned against the kitchen counter with a plastic cup in her hand, staring down at the murky amber liquid like it might explain something to her. It was her second drink. Maybe third.
She wasn’t drunk. That was the annoying part.
the title is based on one of my favs by fiona apple, "the first taste"
She just felt…weird. The kind of restlessness that made her bounce her knee and keep scanning the room even when she wasn’t looking for anyone in particular.
Across the living room, someone was attempting to sing along with whatever song blasted through the speakers. Amy had taken over the aux cord earlier and the playlist had spiraled into chaotic territory—early 2000s pop, random rap, something aggressively electronic.

Glinda’s surprised at her honesty, nodding her head as she pressed her chest against the other girl’s, her own eyes flicking down to her lips, “Well if you’re really curious, I retaliated because Pfannee and ShenShen said you liked me. Now I ask you, do you?”
Of course they would plant that idea in her head. It was a very wrong idea, at least at the time. But now, maybe they had a point.
“I didn’t like you then,” she admits, finally letting go of the book and the towel as bravery courses through her, ignoring the way it thumps and splays out on the carpeted floor. Her hand was now on the shorter girl’s waist, pulling her impossibly close, “Now I’m holding everything back to not kiss you.”

“I thought you wore glasses so you could see better?” Elphaba teases, setting the rag aside and reaching for her hand. Glinda scrunches her nose, lowering her head as she tries to hide from Elphaba’s gaze. But she couldn’t escape her, she shouldn’t. Her finger curls under her chin, lifting her head just enough so their eyes could meet.
When they do, it feels like the world has stopped. The silence suddenly calmed instead of deafening. Elphaba smiles at her, one of dashing smiles that she couldn’t stop thinking about, and she leans in, close enough that she was able to hear Glinda’s breath hitch. “Do you know why it didn’t work?”
She knew. Oh, Oz, she knew. But she couldn’t bring herself to admit it. How could she be so blind? How could she be so oblivious?
“It doesn’t work if the person is already in love with you.” She says breathlessly, now unable to tear her eyes away from her, “But… That’s not possible, is it?”
