    Summary

The Ton was a mystical place. The people were not humans. They looked like humans and, to some extent, lived like humans, but they had something more.
The people of the Ton had a greater awareness of their souls. Because of this, they could do many things that normal human beings could not. They could recognize their soulmate and were, in fact, younger-looking, lived longer, and were said to be better at almost everything than normal humans. Yet they blended in and lived alongside humans while humans remained completely unaware of them.

Penelope Featherington had spent most of her life waiting.

Waiting for her soulmate. Waiting to become someone worth noticing. Waiting for a future she had once been certain would belong to Colin Bridgerton.

At sixteen, she had believed destiny itself had made her for him. At eighteen, destiny had disagreed. Ten years later, she had long since accepted that Colin was not hers, that soulmates were not guaranteed, and that some people simply spent their lives alone.

    It was a painful lesson.

    But she had survived it.

    Summary

When Penelope wakes, blearily, she shifts to her opposite side in the uncomfortable hospital bed.

She sees him there, in the same place he has been for the last several days, from the moment she first awoke.

The man they say is her husband.

She knows this man; she has known him nearly her whole life.

But she does not know Colin Bridgerton as her husband.

An accident steals five years of Penelope's memory, leaving her baffled and confused as she tries to adjust to the life that is, apparently, hers—a life she had once dreamed of, no less. Colin is Colin, taking care of her every need, but maintaining a careful distance that has her wondering how he fell in love with her in the first place. But as they navigate the strange new world they find themselves in, and as bits and pieces of Penelope's memory return, she learns how it feels to be truly and wholly loved by Colin Bridgerton.

And how it feels to be betrayed by him.

    Summary

Penelope is convinced to attend the university’s annual winter carnival under the promise she’ll see the rarely-in-London-anymore Colin Bridgerton. When she does spot him, however, he’s running the football team’s kissing booth.

Which makes her want to throw up, quite frankly.

Perplexingly, it also puts certain things in motion Colin discovers he is not prepared for.

    Summary

“But when am I getting married? And who am I getting married to?”

“More like who would want to marry you?” Prudence mumbles as Philippa snickers along unkindly.

Penelope frowns, for a moment she wonders if her mum will tell Prudence to stop, that being mean also isn’t ladylike, but she doesn’t do that, she just ignores it. “Well, you’re a little too young to be getting married right now, that will have to wait until you’re a bit older, but as for who you’re going to marry… I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.”

Two days after the wedding, Penelope knocks a boy off his bike by accident with her yellow hat. He laughs with her about it instead of yelling at like she’d assumed he would, and the moment she hears his laugh she knows that she’s met the love of her life, and the minute she opens the door she tells her mum that she knows exactly who she’s going to marry one day.

She’s going to marry Colin Bridgerton, the flowers said so.

    OR

At nearly every single wedding she goes to, Penelope catches the bouquet. These are the various times it happens, and a couple of times when it doesn't.

    Summary

“Ah, are you mad? I would never dream of courting Penelope Featherington, not in your wildest fantasies, Fife.”

A beat of silence passed, filled only by the sounds of distant conversation, firecrackers sizzling in the sky and the gentle beat of crickets in the night. For a moment it seemed the men had nothing to say, and then–

    “Truly?”
“I was under the impression you shared an understanding.”
    “So she is available?”

All three gentlemen responded at once, in that order. Before Colin could question their meaning, they were already looking beyond him and making their way out.

In the summer of 1814, one Bridgerton's declaration clears the path for suitors galore to vie for a young Miss Featherington's hand, much to his dismay.
