Summary
How can he not get lost in the sight— watching Wolfwood eat a meal he made, changed into clean loungewear (which Vash soon will, tragically of course, have to either take off or make sweaty) and backlit angelically by the warm sun coming through the window of their back door. He never thought he could have this, this soft peak of domestic bliss. He is so lucky that it's with Wolfwood; he couldn't imagine giving his tomorrows to anyone else.
His longing gazes, of course, means Wolfwood finishes eating before him. "Hey, hurry it up." Standing up with his plate, Wolfwood trails his hand along Vash's shoulder as he passes him to wash his plate in the sink. "Your mouth is gonna get stuck like that. Plus, you don't wanna keep me waitin', do ya?" There's a soft hunger in his eyes as he gives Vash a long look, then heads towards their bedroom.

However, the town sits atop a large freshwater aquifer, one of only a few in No Man's Land, and a group of water barons in a nearby city have set their sights on it. With hired guns harassing the town and legal options running out, the threat violence will be brought down on this town like a boot on a throat grows every day.
Nicholas D. Wolfwood knows Vash will run headlong into the brewing fight, and he also knows he'll follow Vash into it. He knows Vash will trust Nicholas to guard his back. Like Nicholas is someone worth trusting. He'll follow Vash anywhere, even to his end.

Wolfwood rolled his eyes and stayed silent the rest of the night. He knew it was a cop-out. Of course he did.

It's early morning. It's been months since that day. An aborted confession. Vash only has one actively healing bullet wound, which is less than usual. Wolfwood slept an entire night without nightmares, which almost never happens. He thinks it's time for an apology.

“Since when the hell did you have a 𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘬?” Wolfwood demands, feeling a bit crazy as Vash ducks his head and tries to hide his face by turning it to stare at the wall. “Is that seriously what that is? Are you 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥?”
“This is from earlier!” Vash swore back, face as red as his coat, neck bent and nearly nose-to-nose. “Give me a break, I’m not used to this!”

Wolfwood stiffened when Vash tipped his head against his neck, as if affectionate, and sighed, "Did it hurt?" His temple felt too hot against Wolfwood's neck.
"Huh? Did what hurt?" Wolfwood questioned, wary of the oddly... warm and gooey look on Vash's face in his dark, surface-shine reflection.
Directly peeking over at Wolfwood's bare, unshielded eyes, Vash returned, "When you fell from heaven?"
At first, Wolfwood froze, mostly in confusion. The flush on his face flared hot enough to quickly melt that into irritation. How was Vash able to do that? Perfectly mimic the look in a man's eyes Wolfwood had seen dozens of times, right before they would ask him to sleep with them?

Summary
Nicholas D. Wolfwood is hardly what one would call a connoisseur of literature. As far as he’s concerned, it sorts itself nicely into three buckets: smart books, scripture, and drivel. He avoids the first on principle, finds himself unwillingly dragged through the second more often than not, and dabbles in the third if the fancy strikes.
The book that’s caught his eye presents a conundrum he wasn’t prepared to confront at 10 AM on a bright, already-roasting Tuesday morning. He’s been left unsupervised in a general store while Vash takes care of some do-gooder something or other, and his boredom had him gravitating to the rack of double-dime novels tucked in the back corner. The drivel selection is top-tier. Most of the books he can open at random and land on something both intriguingly salacious and horrendously written, and Wolfwood has spent a solid fifteen minutes gleefully paging through paperbacks with covers featuring washboard abs and heaving bosoms before he spots the book that’s going to ruin his life.

Vash is already very much into Wolfwood. During a bar fight, he sees a stomach tattoo on the priest that he had never noticed before and it gets to him, making him want Wolfwood more than ever. A week or so later, the two get drunk and go farther than they ever had before. Vash takes extra time to show Wolfwood's stomach and his tattoo the love they deserve.
