“With me breaking the sword”--Liam winces to himself, anticipating the skip in Theo’s pulse at the mention of the weapon, but Theo’s heart remains steady--“you probably interpreted me as, like, the most tolerable captor out of everybody.”
“Liam.” Theo’s tongue is slow and heavy around the syllables. “I’m not your prisoner.”
“Aren’t you?”
Theo sits up, suddenly. The bedsprings creak and bounce with the flow of his movement. He pulls his knees to his chest under the covers and lays his cheek across them to regard Liam in the moonlight.
Theo says, deliberately: “I’m not.”
“You’d go anywhere I asked you to.”
There. It’s out.
“I would.” Theo taps his knee with a thumb. “But not for the reason I think you think I would.”
