Summary
Lyra's world has evolved, everything became modern, sleek, fast. Over time people forgot about witches, panserbjørns, and the gobblers. Now, Los Angeles Police Department patrols with their Dæmons along side them. It provides more support but also a heightened sense of vulnerability amongst officers.
Basically, this is important Rookie moments rewritten in the HDM universe, so everyone has Daemons! That's pretty much it.

Whilst I adored the finale, these are little scenes that I wish we could have gotten to make Max's arc feel more complete. Theres a little bit of a canon divergence at the start, btw. Enjoy!
