Summary
What if Savage never found his brother?
Upon finding the mangled living corpse of his Master's killer, Obi-Wan is presented with a choice that shakes his understanding of the Force and the principles of the Order - kill Maul and take the easy way out, or truly face the cycle of violence and help him instead?AU in which Savage never finds his way to Maul and it is instead Obi-Wan who discovers him. Making the pious choice seems easy to the Jedi around him, but hurt is an ugly thing and love a bloodthirsty one. While saving him is the 'Jedi' thing to do, Obi-wan is awash with regret and grappling with feelings he thought he'd left behind a long time ago. Does he believe in the principles of the Jedi Order enough to believe they can reach even Darth Maul?

But somehow he still finds himself standing between a Mandalorian mystery and a slave child hell-bent on getting everyone into trouble. And well... things just tend to get out of hand very easily with so many variables.

Waiting does not come easy.
The first few years are muddied with grief, of course. Smeared mostly past recollection in a haze of misery and pain and inadequacy. Tempered by small bright spots of memory-- the times that Beru and Owen needed a night or three to themselves, Luke toddling his first steps about Ben’s sparse home, the first time that Luke had called him “uncle”, which had reduced him nearly to tears-- Obi-wan did not know exactly how he’d survived.
--Obi-wan is on Tattooine, struggling to adjust. Maul comes along and upsets his balance. They hash out an old argument, and it goes not-so well for either of them.
This is a "Twin Suns Goes A Little Differently" AU, because I really like tormenting Maul and Obi :).
