“My life would be much more bearable with you here,” Spock continued, his tone dead serious. “I hate to condemn you to an existence with a man that does not care for you, when I desire you exactly as much as you desire me, and force myself to settle for a version of you that does not believe in kindness, but that is what will happen. Then someone leaked it on the public Starfleet server, and suddenly his embarrassingly smutty and sentimental Human/Vulcan love story is all over campus. Luckily for Jim, no one knows that he’s the author. Unluckily for Jim, someone forwarded the novel to the staff of the Vulcan embassy. Now, every Vulcan in San Francisco is reassessing the logical merits of taking Human bondmates.
Spock reads a Human/Vulcan romance novel because he can hardly avoid it. Suddenly, he is consumed by the need to locate the author, ascertain their wellbeing, and instruct them in the way of Vulcan mating bonds. Luckily for Spock, it doesn't take long to identify the author as Jim Kirk. Unluckily for Spock, Jim is unconscious and surrounded by interested Vulcans who also read the book.

There he is. And Dean is so torn. His bottom lip wants to wobble around fat tears at the same time he wants to be defensive. Warring between the urges to either run to the other side of the bench to kneel at Cas’s feet- get a good look at that face- or to grab him by the scruff of his neck and demand to know what he thought he was doing by pulling a stunt like this. In his confusion, all that Dean does is stare at the cowlick of Cas’s dark hair.
I’m right here, the memories in him call out. Castiel, I finally caught up to you.

Summary
Cas finds an artifact in the Bunker and touches it before Dean can. He's transported to an alternate timeline, set half a year after Dean returns from Hell. While there, he's surprised to find that this Dean and this Castiel have established the same disciplinary dynamic as himself and his Dean back home.
When Dean puts himself in danger on a hunt, it's clear he's going to need to pay for it. Only Cas isn't so sure about everything. The Castiel of this timeline is just as cold and unfeeling as he was as a soldier of Heaven. How will he know how to take care of Dean properly?
It seems, in this case, Cas will just have to teach him.
