Thankfully, Ma sets the phone down. “You’re confused because?” Her voice lifts, giving him space to answer.
“Because—” Daniel's eyes then drift to the calendar hanging on the fridge behind her head.
His entire body plummets. Because, in bright red marker, the date, December 19th, is circled over and over. With the text stating the year, 1984, tucked neatly in the corner.

When Daniel closes his eyes after defending his All Valley title, he wakes up on December 19th, 1984, and is trapped reliving the day again and again.

Shawn froze. He couldn’t have heard that right.
“I’m sorry that there wasn’t something like that for you. I know how overwhelming those city-wide celebrations can be.” Jules responded.
“Yeah, well, it is what it is. At least we have it now, so some other poor person doesn’t think they have to immediately launch into being out to the whole city.”

He also, somewhat, wanted to distract himself. From all of it. From the crowd of people all muttering around him, from the friction of his clothes rubbing against him as he moved, from the stupid bright lights that wouldn’t stop buzzing. All of it was rubbing him the wrong way, making him feel as though he was going to lose it. All of this stupid stuff shouldn’t have been bothering him, it almost never did. But now it was, and he felt as though he was about to throw up. Or break down. Or cry. Or, D, all of the above.
One thing became crystal clear to him. If he didn’t get out of that room immediately, something bad was going to happen.

“Spencer, you think I want to pretend to be married to you? Because I don’t.” Carlton scoffed, and Spencer’s eyes instantly widened.
Oh. He’d meant to approach the issue much more tactfully. Ease into it. Maybe butter Spencer up a little bit. But nope, he’d just blurted it out. The silence hung in the air for a moment as Carlton wiped his still-sweaty palms on his pants again, feeling incredibly awkward.
“We’re gonna be married?” Spencer’s eyes were still wide, and he bit the inside of his cheek in contemplation for a moment.
