Summary
When Geralt first comes across the mansion, he comes in because the nearest town is still hours away and he knows Roach is not going to make it that far without rest. That is when he meets Julian - the only resident of the truly enormous estate that seems to have everything one might dream of within its walls.
When Geralt returns the second time, he tells himself that it’s only because he wants to thank Julian for his hospitality and help, and not because he wants to see him again, feel the warmth of his fingers against his skin.
And when he returns again after that, he learns that both the mansion and his own heart may not be as simple as they seem.

Summary
Geralt lays out their bedrolls for the night and coaxes Jaskier to give up his composing for the evening and lay down, tugging the bard by the hand until he concedes, rolling his eyes but moving willingly enough. Jaskier flops around as he usually does until he decides he’s comfortable, and Geralt bides his time and waits. Finally, the bard decides on his position for sleep, turning his back to Geralt and then wriggling closer until they’re pressed together. Geralt wraps an arm around his belly and pulls him closer, pressing his face to the back of Jaskier’s head and inhaling, letting the familiar scent ground and center him.
It still feels impossible, the idea of getting to have something like this. It feels dreamlike, even now, the reality of getting to hold Jaskier close, to have something soft and beautiful and his. He wonders if this feeling will ever fade, and a part of him hopes it never does. He pulls Jaskier tighter and kisses the soft skin behind his ear before he settles down. He can feel it raise goosebumps on Jaskier’s arms, and he smiles, slightly, a little drunk on his power to cause such a reaction.

Elsewhere, Jaskier rescues a handsome witcher from a tree, gets into trouble, takes up the name of the Sandpiper, and finds solace in a kindred soul - not necessarily in that order. Eskel just wants to make it home to his brothers, his father, and Geralt, and keep their bard alive while doing it.

“Yeah,” he says.
“Oh, my heart.”
Jaskier dips his head and presses a kiss into the join of Geralt’s shoulder.
“I haven’t felt like this since…since the night before the trials,” Geralt admits. Jaskier’s fingers skim over his back, gentle, so very gentle. “I know what it’s like to be made anew.”
“Not like this,” Jaskier whispers. “This isn’t going to mold you into another kind of weapon. It’s just going to make you into…into you.”
Or: Jaskier is a god. Geralt is on the verge of becoming one.

Summary
It's a silly, silly thing, to keep the first coin Geralt gave him.
It's a foolish, sentimental show of whimsy to hold onto a bit of metal that the witcher likely forgot about the second it left his hand.
There's no point in keeping it. None at all. It would be absurd to hold onto it when it could be better spent on ale or bread or doublets.
Jaskier sews it a special pocket in his bag.
(Jaskier's life changed the day Geralt left him that coin. How could he NOT keep it?)

Jaskier, personification of Death, bemused and a little bit entertained, strums his lute. "You really didn't know this whole time? But I told you when we first met."
Geralt thought about it and slowly put his hand on his face. "Fuck."

Geralt has been having the strangest few weeks. First, he acquires a bard from a shitty tavern in Posada who spouts some nonsense at him despite it being clear that he couldn't possibly be the person he was talking about. He's certain he would have remembered meeting him in his relatively long life.
Second, the bard - Jaskier - doesn't seem like he's leaving any time soon despite Geralt trying to lose him.
Third, Jaskier keeps looking at him. He keeps touching him. He keeps... He keeps. And it's doing something strange to him. His stomach flips, and he originally thought he was sick, but as time continues to pass, he has to acknowledge the fact that may or may not be acquiring feelings for said bard.
And that horse. Why was it... green? Given, it's the lightest shade of green, but really?

Summary
The memory of this particular town is one of the softer ones, bright and full of color, the air filled with music and song and the heady aromas of spices and savory meats, of tangy fruits and desserts almost too saccharine. Blood, too, from the head of the bruxa he'd killed, but covered by the overwhelming scent of relief that started permeating the town when word spread that the creature was dead.
He remembers warm sunlight and a gentle summer breeze. He remembers blue, bright and clear: blue eyes beneath a blue sky, shining with mirth, and pink lips that tasted like sweet honey, soft against his own.
When Geralt returns to the town where he met a blue-eyed bard that stole his heart, he finds it much less lively than it had been a decade before, despite it being nearly Midsummer. Something haunts the fields, sucking the light and life from the land, and the people are desperate for their peace and traditions back.
The distinct lack of that blue-eyed bard with a soul as warm as sunlight feels like a terrible, cruel omen.

Summary
“I’m not planning on leaving you,” Geralt says on their fourth evening. The witcher doesn’t look up from the bestiary he’s been scrawling corrections in, a pastime of his that Jaskier knows drives other people crazy when they get their books back.
Jaskier blinks at him in surprise.
“Since when was that in question?” He asks, slightly alarmed at the idea of it.
Geralt makes a noise of frustration.
“It wasn’t,” he says, his face creased in the way it always is when he has things he wants to say but doesn’t know how to. He sits back and gestures at Jaskier with a vague hand gesture. “You’re just…clingy. Like you’re afraid I’m going to try and leave you.”

Summary
There’s a steadiness to Geralt that centers Jaskier, a sturdiness and a patience that resonates with Jaskier’s energy like two tuning forks suddenly chiming in sync. He fits with Geralt, in a way that Jaskier has never fit anywhere.
And for all that Geralt may occasionally tell him to shut up or may roll his eyes or may urge Roach farther up the road to get some distance, Jaskier can be himself around the witcher. Jaskier chatters and sings and composes out loud and flirts and jokes, and Geralt takes it all in stride.
He may not always like what Jaskier does, but he never seems to expect Jaskier to be anything other than what he is.
It’s addicting, that sort of acceptance.
With each year, he grows more and more terrified of losing it.
