Summary
After defeating Vecna, Steve disappeared. He was there for a little while after, but then he just left in the middle of the night. No one had heard from him since. Eddie spent most of that time in a coma, waking up to everyone mourning the loss of an important member of their fucked up found family. It isn't until Eddie is home from the hospital that anyone gets word of where Steve is.
That's because he reappears on Eddie's doorstep with his car packed and nowhere else to go.

For Eddie Munson, presenting as an Omega has been nothing but a pain in the ass. All the Alphas who used to push him around and call him a freak are now falling all over themselves trying to court him. As if he could forget the years of bullying they put him through.
Is there a single Alpha in all of Hawkins who can crack through his icy exterior and thaw his cold, dead heart? He sure has hell doesn't think so.

Steve snorts, “yeah, well, not according to him.”
She’s quiet for a minute, then, “you coming to Hellfire?”
“Pretty sure I won’t be wanted.”
Robin bumps him with her shoulder, “Henderson loves you, and so does Jane. Lucas has a weird hero worship thing going on. Even Mike is warming up to you, kinda’. I know for a fact Max likes you.”
“Max is horrible to me literally every chance she gets.”
“Yeap, that’s how I know, it’s how she shows affection” Steve eyes her speculatively, “it’s true, I swear, if she didn’t like you, she wouldn’t waste the energy even trying to talk to you.”

After a tense confrontation with the kids, Steve’s nightmare features a monstrous version of Eddie, hellbent on revenge, who might not actually be a figment of Steve’s subconscious, and definitely isn’t dead. Determined to rescue Eddie, Steve is ready to die to make up for his past failures. But Steve and Eddie are playing with forces they don’t quite understand, and it turns out the cost might not be to Steve at all, but to one of the kids.

"Yeah, yeah – laugh all you want. I see you’re still making fun of us older people,” Eddie drawls out as he leans his arms on the roof of the car, lowering his head to look at him. The t-shirt underneath his leather jacket is riding up, showing a trail of dark hair disappearing beneath the jeans.
Steve’s not laughing anymore.
“See you, Munson,” Steve says, lifting his gaze a second too late; he knows Eddie has seen his eyes linger. Eddie pats the roof twice in goodbye and slams the door shut, sauntering towards the trailer.
“Was that just me, or...” Vickie whispers.
“Yep,” Robin interjects. “Could cut the tension with a fucking knife.”
Steve squeezes his eyes shut, groaning.
“Don’t start, Robin.”
Or: Steve Harrington moves to Hawkins, trading his parents' empty mansion for a rental and a job at the local repair shop. He's looking for peace and quiet. Instead, he hires Eddie Munson as a mover, steals his rings, and learns that sometimes, finding balance requires embracing a little chaos.

So, when local band Corroded Coffin began renting the suite across from his tattoo shop and he was forced to meet their loud, obnoxious, over-the-top frontman Eddie Munson, it came as an absolute shock that he could not stand to be in the same room as him.
