Deborah tips her head to one side, regarding Ava thoughtfully. “Because you’re so bad at it?”
Ava can't help making a face. “OK, why do I have to be bad at it?”
Deborah purses her lips. “It just seems fitting.”

"When Ava finally relented and agreed to Deborah’s suggestion that she get back to being good tomorrow, Ava didn’t have any intentions of being bad. Just a brief pause from her self-imposed punishment. A night to have a glass of mediocre white wine in a shitty bar half cloaked in darkness.
It was just that a glass of wine turned into two. And Deborah was actually looking at her for the first time in what felt like weeks. And Deborah had climbed into a Wendy’s dumpster for her, stupidly expensive silk pajamas and all."
