Instead of cherishing the limited time left, Erid reworked the foundation of what was considered scientifically possible—they found a way to turn their resident alien into an Eridian.

For once, Rocky didn’t comment on my leaking face. Didn’t call me gross or make fun of me otherwise. So I did it for him.
“Yeah,” I sniffed, half-laughing through it. “Humans leak, ew.”
Because, well—
This might be the last time I ever cried.
“No, Grace leak as much as want. Is okay!” Rocky rushed in immediately, all urgency and overlapping chords.
“Well, you weren’t going to, so someone else had to do it.”
He paused. “No understand. Is joke, question?”
“Yeah,” I said, sniffling a little. “It’s a joke.”
