He shook his head. The runaway idea was stupid—there’s no way they’d be able to pull it off and even if they did, there were just so many things that could go wrong. He didn’t know if he could pull off a convincing scheme like this, he knew he’d leave some kind of sign (but what if he was careful)? Plus he had no idea if Ilya would actually be ok with dropping everyone and running—also what about Svetlana, would she be ok with doing all of that? He already felt like he asked Ilya to give up too much despite his reassurances and this would just be another thing he’d be asking Ilya to leave.
There was just no way that would work—right?
OR
Shane and Ilya don't come out to Yuna and David. Instead, they leave everything behind.
Main storyline is complete!! Anything after chapter 8 is a bonus :)

Shane is watching him so closely. He would know if Ilya glanced his way, even for a second, and it pulls low in his stomach to know for sure that he absolutely isn't being looked at. Shane is just that obvious.
"Is that the game we're playing?"
Ilya licks his lips, eyes flicking up to check the mirror, not Shane, but it's something. "That's always the game we're playing, Shane, but right now, you are losing." Yes. Probably.

“Of course I’m not okay with this - he’s fucking hurting you Shane.” Yuna takes the opportunity to finally say it outright. She doesn’t hide the vitriol in her tone.
“Wha-” Shane’s eyes get wide. Something like comprehension crosses his face. His eyes dart down to the bruise on his wrist. “Oh.” If possible, his face gets redder still. Yuna frowns. “No, mom, he’s not- uh- hurting me. Like that.”
What? “Did somebody else give you that bruise then?” Yuna feels a bit hysterical. Has Rozanov Stockholm Syndromed her son?
“No,” Shane grits out, “it was, uh, Ilya. It was just. You know. Like. Um.”
And suddenly Yuna understands. She understands all too well. She understands more than she had ever wanted to about her son.
