But Columbina was indescribably happy in the moments with Sandrone, which became less and less fleeting as the years passed by. What began as brief, cordial interactions caused only by the responsibilities of their work evolved into tea parties after hours, singing duets that Columbina assumed both roles for outside of Sandrone's door, her nap times in Sandrone's impossibly comforting bed, and much more. These moments were partially how Columbina knew something was wrong with Dottore, that ill-advised doctor, and encouraged her to desert from the Fatui.
She had bigger things to worry about than losing her pension and retirement plan.

“Hello, Wyrm.” Grimm nearly spits the words, as if it disgusts him.
“Troupe Master.” His response contains no less venom, but perhaps a little fear, a fear all higher beings know belongs with the Nightmare Troupe and the ruin they herald.
After what seems an eternity, Grimm speaks. “Why have you summoned us?”
“...What?”
Grimm is summoned to Hallownest, before the infection takes hold. Meanwhile, other forces from Pharloom have entered Hallownest, and worlds begin to collide.

Summary
During the second Extermination, Emily goes down to Hell to see why Adam & a bunch of armor wearing Angels go down there to begin with. She then discovers the horrible atrocity that is the yearly Exterminations of Sinners. However, she finds a beacon of hope in the form of the Princess of Hell, Charlie Morningstar, & her Happy Hotel project. They then begin to form a romance, which expands to a throuple romance with the arrival of Vaggie, a fallen Exorcist angel, as they try to appeal to Heaven using redemption. But it isn't going to be easy.
