    Neil couldn't tell if the words were in his head or if he was crying it.

    It felt like hours–maybe it was–before the weight was torn off of him. The painful sensation abruptly dulled into a nagging ache. He sank into the floor, shuddering as multiple new footsteps made their way into the room and thundered in his ears.

    He heard screaming, and this time it wasn't coming from him.
