That's one of the flaws with the whole 'soulmate' thing. No one quite knows what the word means, except that people who speak each other's words have fates that are intertwined in some way. Nico's not sure how the idea got so tangled in romance- to be honest he's not sure all soulmates even like each other.
All Nico knows for certain is this: he's fourteen years old, and he has four sets of words.
None of them belong to Percy Jackson.

There was a battle, Hazel knew that. She couldn't come, Nico had begged her not to come and seeing her brother that way made her -reluctantly- agree. Everyone came back alive, albeit injured.. But, where was Nico?
“Where's my brother?” She'd asked, getting a heavy silence.
—Or
I saw a post on Pinterest that in a battle Hazel died and Nico asked "where's my sister" to Percy again like in the Titan's curse, so I switched things up a bit. Why not give Percy PTSD and Hazel some more trauma on the pile?
