Look, maybe Alex used to overthink touching the boys, when he was younger, when he was still trying to figure out what him being gay meant for that friendship - but Luke didn’t let those nerves last long, cuddled Alex every single damn day after he came out, like he was proving a point, stubborn and bull-headed as ever, until Reggie and Bobby followed his lead.
And when Alex’s anxiety skyrockets, his first red flag is that his skin feels wrong because he doesn’t want his boys to touch him.
But usually, when things are good, it’s so natural, for Alex, maybe the only thing he doesn’t overthink. To touch the boys, to have them touch him, is easy as breathing, flows like water.
So he doesn’t think, usually.

Only Jason isn’t staring at a cheerful toddler. He’s looking down at a tiny, badly bruised child, shaking in his little Nightwing suit, staring up at Jason with poorly concealed terror.

Luke has this special protectiveness towards Alex. It’s like he’s the only one that realizes that Willie isn’t good enough for him. Willie spends enough time trying to prove to himself that he’s worthy of Alex’s love, and he doesn’t need anyone else doubting him. So every time he’s around Luke, he’s walking on eggshells, trying to prove that he’s a good boyfriend. That he’s worthy of Alex. Maybe if Luke approves, Willie can finally let go of his own fear that he doesn’t deserve Alex.
