My take on the wolf!Derek trope. Begins more or less shortly after the Hale fire, about a year (I'm estimating) after Claudia's death. Becomes sort of canonical toward the end of part two, insofar as it takes into account all the goings-on of S1, but is canon divergent after that.

After sneaking into the room where the Arkenstone is kept safe, a young prince Thorin touches it and a strange burning mark appears on his palm, moments before the jewel bursts apart and something hatches from it.
Turns out that it wasn't a jewel after all, but an egg — a dragon egg. And the dragon and Thorin are now connected physically and mentally, able to communicate through their thoughts.
Somehow, Thorin doesn't mind at all.
(Or: The Arkenstone is found when Thorin is a child, it's actually a dragon egg, Bilbo hatches from it, and they fall in love)

Summary
Steve had a bad feeling, and this wasn't the first time it had happened.
For as long as he could remember, he had always had hunches. Hunches about events that hadn't even happened yet but warned him before the shoe could drop. He was used to them. To the bad omens. To the anxiety they brought.
Maybe, that's why he was as tense as a coiled spring when they entered Hawkins Lab, as gray as decayed as the rest of the Upside Down. But not even a hunch could have prepared him for what happened that day. He couldn't have braced himself for the party splitting up. He couldn't have braced himself for an argument with Dustin, much less the boy's violent reaction at him bringing Eddie into the conversation.
He couldn't have expected to crack his head open into the ground, nor the world that waited for him when he opened his eyes once again. Neither the spider that bit him, or the powers that would later bring him.
And when this peculiar world welcomed him, he couldn't help but wonder.
Was that Munson? In a big sign? Wearing a hero-like costume?
And why on Earth was he blond?

He takes the sandwich out of its container and is about to take the biggest bite out of it that the world’s ever seen when Stiles hears something. He doesn’t know what exactly he hears, whether it’s a strong gust of wind, a rustling of leaves, or the sounds of an animal. He doesn’t know, but whatever it is, it makes the hair at the back of his neck stand up in alert.
Looking around, he initially doesn’t see anything, not even a deer which, let's be honest, it probably was. This is the woods after all. Then, the second before he’s about to go back to his sandwich, he sees it.
It’s a fucking wolf.
Now there are two things running through Stiles’ mind at this moment. One, holy fucking shit I’m about to be mauled to death by a wolf, and two, why the hell is there a wolf in California?

Summary
Steve Harrington has been able to heal wounds through touch his whole life, something he inherited from his mother. His parents forbid Steve from using this power, worried someone would find out. Steve had a secret though. One he didn’t even dare tell his mother: Steve didn’t need to touch to heal. He didn’t even need to be in the same city. Connecting with people through what he called the Dark place, Steve was able to take on others' wounds, healing from afar. At eleven years old, he was hiding his true self from everyone he knew, even himself. Only connecting with another young boy named Eddie kept him sane.
When the Upside Down reared its ugly head, Steve had to learn how to leave his pretend life behind and embrace the person he wanted to be.

Steve’s visions might be disjointed, confusing, and generally a pain in the ass, but they did help him save Barb Holland. So when he has a new vision -- one that shows Bob Newby's death -- he knows he can’t ignore it.
Unfortunately, whatever’s creeping back into Hawkins isn’t waiting around for Steve to figure things out. The Upside Down is spreading, something is very wrong with both Will and Barb, and the demogorgons are definitely not done with them yet.
Now, Steve and his growing group of friends have to try to stop it before things get even worse. Which would be easier if Steve wasn’t also freaking out about the fact that he probably likes boys, and he definitely likes Eddie Munson.
Barb, meanwhile, is having plenty issues of her own, like terrifying hallucinations of the Upside Down, and even worse – an unrequited crush on her best friend.
