Footsteps sound from farther away, but seem to be rapidly approaching. They’re swift and strong, moving with purpose.
He has a hard time hearing them over the beating of his heart.
Whoever or whatever it is enters the kitchen, then seems to stop near the threshold. Tango waits a few moments before tentatively peeking his head out from behind the island.
Only a few feet away is a dark shape, form twisting and turning like smoke.
He quickly ducks back and holds his breath. If he can't see it, it's not there!
The footsteps don't resume. Not even after what feels like an eternity of waiting. Tango shuts his eyes tight at some point, hoping beyond hope that he'll make it through this.

“Thank you so much,” Jimmy tells her, pouring every ounce of sincerity into his words—and he truly does mean it. Pearl is risking possibly her only friend just to honor her deal with Jimmy. And maybe that should make him feel worse, because at the end of the day, it’s pity fueling the kind words and actions given to the Ranchers—but Jimmy looks at Pearl and sees nothing but guilt in her exhausted expression. No matter what Scott might say about her, Pearl is a kind soul that just wants a friend and has received nothing but unfair scrutiny.
Jimmy throws her a bone, gives her a chance to take it all back. Maybe he isn’t as eager to get burned by his foolhardy trust as he thought he was. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah.” Pearl waves a flippant hand—all but throwing the metaphorical bone back in Jimmy’s face. “You have it. I can’t just leave like that, that’s not me.”
Unbeknownst to Pearl, Jimmy decides right then and there that Pearl is Team Rancher’s best friend.

Yet here they are, stuck in a picture-perfect town where every holiday cliché is shoved in their faces. Maybe the only way out is to lean into it—decorate a bit, bake some cookies, skate on some ice.
As long as they’re not part of the clichés themselves… right?

Jimmy’s frantic mutterings of “No no no no–” were almost immediately overtaken by Tango’s shouting the moment the culprit came into view.
"SCAR!"
Scar’s retreating form paused for only a second so he could flash a grin back over his shoulder, and it took everything Jimmy had to remind himself that Scar didn’t know, he didn’t know, he didn’t mean anything by it, it’s all a game to him, it’s all a game–He shouldn’t have left the ranch.
The thought lingered, unwilling to be let go.
He shouldn’t have left the nest. He should have stayed, and maybe he could have stopped Scar before he took up the flint and steel. Maybe he could have stopped him from even getting close. Or maybe, even if Jimmy noticed too late, he could have stopped the spread of the flames before they got out of control.
But more than that…
He should have told Grian.
There was no avoiding it now, he reasoned, as he drew his knees to his chest to try and cradle the blanket-wrapped egg a little closer, to try and keep it a little warmer. Grian had to know. After that evening’s catastrophic turn of events, it was far far too risky to go any longer without speaking up.Series

“Are you sure you’re alright?” Tango asked, leaning in a little closer.
Jimmy went to nod again, but paused, hit with another wave of dizziness. Other people around the table were starting to stare at him as well, a mixture of concerned and annoyed gazes, though mostly annoyed. He swallowed, kept his own gaze on the table, waiting for the spinning sensation to stop. And thankfully, after a moment, it did, but then his body began to feel heavy, limbs dragging him down.
“I, um-” He winced as a sharp pain stabbed his heart, then sucked in a shallow breath. “I’m okay. Just, um- need a moment, sorry.” Maybe he just needed some fresh air? Or at least a minute or so away from the Tek family, a chance to refresh himself. He pushed himself up, grabbing onto the table as his legs threatened to collapse underneath him, black spots dancing in his vision.
Tango stood up as well, taking his arm to steady him, and all Jimmy could do was sigh in relief, offering his boyfriend a thankful smile.
Or, Jimmy is well aware that his boyfriend's parents do not like him, and when he begins to feel weird during a dinner with the Teks, things only get worse.

In a world of supernatural creatures, humans are a little scared of them. That’s where the Cryptic-Human Alliance Guild comes in, to facilitate better relations between humans and the supernatural, and for safety for the squishier humans.
Tango Tek, a recently turned vampire (in the last month) is volunteered to give presentations on ‘sleep safety’ to different communities to slow the increase of vampirism and reduce casualties. It’s at one of these presentations he meets Jimmy Solidarity; a man incapable of turning, no matter how many times he’s been drained, who asks for his help in stopping whoever keeps taking all his blood every month.
As Tango searches for answers, he learns a lot more about the supernatural community, and where his current stance lands him among his new peers. What’s more, why is Jimmy specifically unable to turn? And when the other humans find out, what lengths will they go to gain the same immunity?
A platonic ranchers fic in which Tango helps Jimmy deal with life-threatening encounters with familiar faces, some human, some supernatural.

It’s mesmerising, following the fluid lines of the sculpture from the neck to the tail, each detail so delicately carved and shaped it’s impossible to imagine that it’s been carved from stone.
He’s reached a hand out before he knows it, stroking one finger carefully along the raised spines of the dragon, along its back. It’s warm beneath his hand, despite all the stone around him being cold. It’s definitely some kind of stone though, maybe a refined obsidian of some kind? It seems to swallow the light around it completely.
His finger is warm where he is touching the statue.

Tango’s eyes widened a little. “And I don’t remember anything that happened and no one else knows but I saw you and I just had this feeling, like I know you and I could trust you, which is a little creepy now that I said it sorry, I don’t know what’s wrong with me and why this happened —“

Summary
Blade-Three, also known as Three, is the living weapon of the Watchers. Conditioned to follow orders, it is meant to use its considerable strength, combat abilities, and total loyalty to obliterate the enemies of the Watchers. Of course, the "following orders" part comes first, which is how, when Listener agent Martyn InTheLittleWood comes along with the right command words, he manages to steal it.
Now, instead of missions that make any sense, Three must navigate as Martyn and his roommate Jimmy attempt to teach it how to be human, or at least enough of a person to be itself. It would help if either Martyn or Jimmy knew how to be human either, and if they weren't falling apart at the seams after the death of an old friend.
(And of course, there's the matter of Three's original identity, a question no one thinks to ask...)
Or: in which Evo had a bad end, and five years later, the pieces that were left behind start to accidentally fall back together.
