Vi sighed. “It’s not the same, Cait. I was nine years old when I watched enforcers open fire on protesters. I watched them walk down that bridge, executing anyone still breathing! I had to grow up knowing my parents’ murderers were still out there, getting paid to uphold law and order. I grew up knowing that enforcers could kill people like me and that nothing would happen to them!”
Or: Vi refuses to become an enforcer, refuses to aid in capturing or killing Jinx, and calls Caitlyn out on some of her behaviour. [Abandoned for now.]

“Caitlyn,” she says. That isn’t right. That wasn’t the answer Vi was after. Names are easily given away but so seldomly remembered in Stillwater, but it echoes in Vi’s head. She almost doesn’t hear the actual answer. “And though I have no doubt a thousand people have given this answer before, I did nothing. I was doing my job, and then I was here. No trial. No sentencing. No crime to speak of.”

After ten years of silence, Mira and Zoey find Rumi completely by accident. She's made a home in a warm, cozy, tight-knit community in Queensland, Australia. And she has a daughter who she'd do anything to protect.
A lot of care clearly went into researching and writing this fic. From Korean and Australian traditions and holidays, to skating, surfing, and bee-keeping, everything feels detailed and authentic. Mira, Zoey, and Rumi are all characterised wonderfully, while also respecting the fact they're older and wiser by the time this story begins. This is a fic about long awaited reunions, warmth and love, and the families we choose to build.

Robert is one smooth motherfucker. The banter and chemistry between him and Mandy is very well written, and both of them are tired of pretending they're not crazy about each other.

There was the sound of the door shutting. A few footsteps.
“She’s not here?” the voice asked.
Zoey dropped her voice lower, almost conspiratorial. “No. She went out—probably won’t be back for, like… fifteen, twenty minutes.”
A beat of silence. Then a quiet chuckle. “Good. Then I can steal you for a while.”
There was a nervous little hiccup of laughter from Zoey. “Wait—don’t get too close, I’m still live—”
“I’ll stay out of frame,” the voice promised, tone coaxing.
The sound of a hand brushing fabric, then a soft shuffle—the mic catching the rustle as Zoey was pulled slightly sideways. A faint smack of lips meeting. Quick. Too quick to be mistaken.
Chat slowed to a crawl.
