Summary
Did he want Mr. Stark to be his dad? Sure! Of course. Before the alien ship and Thanos and the blip, he had mentally called Mr. Stark “dad” more times that he could count. He had even slipped and called him that accidentally a time or two. Thankfully, Peter was sure his mentor had been preoccupied on those occasions, because he hadn't reacted or responded.

After Ben died Peter had only one emergency contact—May. Which is fine it’s not like he doesn’t have one. But then Midtown then makes a mandatory rule that each person needs at least 2 emergency contacts. Peter not really having anyone else writes down Tony Stark’s phone number; it’s not like the school will call him anyway, right? Turns out when you’re the prime target for Flash Thompson’s bullying, things go differently.
Or: Peter gets injured because of Flash, and May’s phone is dead. Cue Tony Stark.

That was the first words Tony heard, when he answered an incoming call from Peter, at three o’clock in the morning.
It was the first night in a week or so, that Tony decided to sleep at a normal hour. One of the only times he hadn’t been awake to answer any late-night phone calls from someone, the call only going through because of the specific settings he had set for Peter—and that was when the kid decided he wanted to give him his once in a blue moon call?
For a moment, he didn’t know what to say—not that he ever knows what to say when it comes to him, honestly—but he settled on a very baffled, bewildered, and groggy, “What?”
“Unde’ a spell,” Peter repeated, another stream of words coming through the speakers, but a lot lower, and a lot more incoherent. He sounded like a congested baboon with a lisp.
