Summary
He was sat near the mantel-piece in the same clothes he had worn when I saw him last. He looked a bit lost in thought and I might have recognized a melancholy in his red-rimmed eyes, but I did not have time to consider it before he stood quickly at my arrival and started speaking.
“I’m sorry for being here without you knowing first, Raffles, but I think I made a fool of myself this evening and… how was the rest of your night with Miss Lawrence?”
He trailed off as I replied, “Yes, you did make a fool of yourself. I will tell you about my night, however, I believe I have a gift for you that will remedy all of this."
—
Raffles disregards Bunny in favour of a woman. When Raffles attempts to apologize, it leads to more upset and many stories about opals.
