“C’mon, it can’t be that embarrassing. I want to know your type, and I want to know it now.” Maybe the knuckle cracking is overkill, but it does the job. He drops his chopsticks in a dramatic fashion, broth splashing on the table as one bounces in the half-eaten ramen, and tilts his head back like he can’t stand to look at her when he says this.
“Team 7,” he mumbles. “Team 7 is my type.”
Sakura waits a beat for more. Nothing.
“That’s it? Your crush on me wasn’t exactly a secret, and honestly, your weird thing with Sasuke wasn’t subtle, either.”
He covers his face with his hands. “All of Team 7.”
One revealing conversation later, Sakura immediately regrets her promise to not set Naruto up anymore. One visit with the Hokage later, she really regrets it.

Of course he finds Kakashi handsome. Who wouldn’t? It’s perfectly normal, Naruto tries to rationalize. Kakshi is strong, and skilled, and kind. He’s the Hokage. It’s normal to be infatuated with the Hokage. And he has a nice body, because he’s a shinobi. And a nice face – or whatever Naruto can see of his face. A nice eye. It’s nice. So what.
Naruto buries his face in his pillow to stifle his scream.

No, this won’t do.
Having a crush is one thing. Having a crush on Kakashi-sensei? Kakashi’s a pervert. He reads Jiraya’s awful pervy novels in public. He slouches around like he doesn’t care about anything and never files paperwork and makes Naruto complete D ranks just because. He can’t be crushing on Kakashi-sensei.
Naruto develops a crush. It's a problem.

Summary
Wave changed a lot about Team 7, but not enough to make them entirely functional. Also someone should have really reminded Kakashi to pay attention to that tiny part of his genius brain that recognises random patterns, before he called a rest stop on the way home on top of an old, decayed Uzushio travel seal with an over-chakra-charged Uzumaki.
And he thought the month of the Wave mission was long, now he's stuck with the team, in a place he never expected to have anything to do with, with no way back.
Maybe he should have paid more attention to history, or stayed in the academy long enough to have history classes.Series
