Summary
Suddenly, a big dark shadow passed between the trees in his peripheral vision. Instinctively Leon turned to face the direction of movement. Unblinking, he stared, holding his breath to be able to hear if there were any sounds to alert him to the presence of whoever was stalking him.
Leon took a step back, only to freeze mid-movement. He heard breathing, hot air hitting the back of his neck. As slowly as he could, he turned around.
A wolf. A massive, white wolf, with feral eyes and face twisted into a snarl.

He’s at her side in the blink of an eye, lifting her out of her bassinet ever so gently. The soft scent of something so small and tender, of warm milk, and new baby soothes over him and makes him hum soothingly on instinct.
“Shhhh, I’m here, sweetheart. Daddy’s here.”
Bailey’s whimpers don’t settle. And each one is like he’s stabbed in the heart with a jagged knife. He nuzzles her brown hair and presses soft kisses to the sensitive skin of her head. “Shhhhh.”
For a moment, all he does is cradle her, rocking her gently from side to side as he paces the room. His nose buried in her downy locks as he grounds himself.
