Summary
In 1993, Gilderoy Lockhart points a stolen wand at Harry Potter and Ron Weasley with the intent to Obliviate them. The wand doesn't backfire. Gilderoy's "discovery" of the Chamber of Secrets is a short-term success.
Other consequences are not short-term at all.

I was watching the Chamber of Secrets movie several years back when the scene in question began to play...and immediately I wanted to know what would happen if the wand had done what it was supposed to do. The answer got very complicated, very, *very* quickly.Blame Edgar Allan Poe for the title.

Summary
Just like the many amazing Slytherin Harry Potter fics, this is my take on what would happen if Harry Potter was just a little bit smarter, a little bit crueler, and acted a little bit more like the Slytherin we knew he could be.
Takes inspiration from too many stories to count, but includes tropes like Slytherin Harry, awesome goblins, Dumbledore bashing, and Harry destroying any machinations laid out for him simply by existing and giving things a second thought. He refuses to be anybody's puppet.
After Harry was introduced to the wizarding world, some red flags were raised and questions left unanswered, so he decided to ditch his babysitter and return to Diagon Alley unsupervised. Harry returned to the bank and found that Dumbledore had been manipulating everything from behind the scenes. Eager to leave the Dursleys behind, Hadrian - he learned his name was - will do whatever it takes to get out from under Dumbledore's thumb, even if it means walking a darker path than expected of the Wizarding world's Savior.

Summary
The multiverse is a paradoxical existence that doesn’t exist except for in the universe it does. Midoriya Izuku is a ‘centerpiece’. A person whose existence acts as a sturdy anchor for a good chunk of the multiverse. Hundreds of thousands of worlds base their changes and growth around this figurehead's name. In one of these universes, Midoriya may have become a regular Pro Hero. Maybe he gets a quirk. Maybe he ends up receiving one. Maybe he even becomes the villain he never wished to be.
This is not one of those worlds.
In fact, Midoriya in this world has a particular fondness for taking things apart and building them back together but better. He took one look at the world of Pro Heroes that's over glorified in the media and thought, ‘Who would help them? Who keeps them going?’
This is the Universe where Midoriya takes one good look at society and decides, ‘Fuck it, I’ll help the heroes. If I need to change society to do it? So be it.’
