Summary
“This is about Finn?” Bubblegum asked after a beat, voice quieter in a way that got under Marceline’s skin and made it shiver from exposure. She let out a breath of irritation as she met the princess’ gaze, posturing up all tough.
“I just don’t want him taking credit for some pretty hilarious pranks. So don’t be mad at him, okay? Be mad at me.” That was never too hard for Bonnibel, and she seemed to agree as she rolled her eyes.
“Believe me, I don’t need your permission for that. Somehow,” she drawled, “I already pieced together it was your fault.”
Marceline blinked, caught off guard. “You did?”
“Finn’s a good kid. He starts doing not good things and you just happen to be around? Not hard to connect those dots, Marceline.”
A familiar sting went through her chest. Hur- Anger. “That’s what you think of me?” she glowered.
Marceline feels guilty about Bubblegum being mad at Finn about the whole wolves and wrestling thing and tries to come clean. She and Bubblegum remember why they haven't talked.

Summary
"I need you,” Cassandra said after a moment, “To promise me something.”
Stephanie sat up, only wincing a little as she shuffled to Cassandra’s side of the bed and sat next to her. “What?”
Those auburn eyes bore into her. Stephanie would always remember those eyes. The weight of the world was in them. There was more emotion than she could ever puzzle out in there. Her eyes were seared into Steph’s brain ever since they were flooded with tears over a dying assassin and horrific timing. Help me, she pleaded, and Stephanie would’ve burned Gotham to the ground in that moment if it would’ve gotten her to stop crying, if it would stop her eyes from looking like that. She never wanted to see that look on her best friend again, but there it was now, the same desperate need, the ache that needed to be soothed. Stephanie was sure she would say yes to anything Cass asked.
“Promise to never die for me again.” Anything except that.
Stephanie died. For Cassandra. They have feelings about that, on top of the other type of feelings sometimes only death and resurrection can finally bring into the light.

Summary
“Bad dream,” she answered after a moment. “About. About Chase. How can you look at me?” She looked steadfast to the wall, not able to see just how he was looking at her right now. “How can he?”
Courtney’s still hung up about almost getting Chase killed. Robert’s got one of the speeches he always has for her ready to go.

Summary
Marceline flew up and up the tower, up to Bonnie’s window, and. Shoot. She was already curled up in bed, eyes shut. There was old Marceline, banging on the mind floor from below. ‘Just wake her up and play it off! It’s you time! She hasn’t talked to you in foreeeever! She’ll just make that cute grumpy face!’ Well, keep it down down there. The Candy Kingdom- heck, all of Ooo- just went through a big disaster. And Bonnie had to calm everyone down, keep things together. She needed her rest. She turned midair but was stopped in her not-tracks, cause floating, by a tired but amused voice.
“Where are you going, Marceline?”
Marceline turned back, and was surprised to see Bonnibel’s eyes still closed. “How’d you…?”
“I know the sound of you floating.”
In the wake of Elements, Marceline and Bonnibel wrestle with guilt, change or lack thereof, and as always, their relationship in a late night talk.

Summary
“Kris…I get what you were trying to do. Hype me up, right? Show off what I’m..." She winced. "Good at. But you don’t have to… I don’t…” She couldn’t find the words. Or maybe she could find them, but she couldn’t dig them up and expose them. It’s not what I want. I don’t want to be… Stupid. It was so lame, so pathetic. It was too much. So she shrugged, her mouth quirking wryly. “I mean… what are we doing here, Kris?”
She didn’t know what she expected. She didn’t know what she thought they’d say. ‘Okay’? Or if they’d say anything at all. Maybe they would just nod and move on. But she knew she wasn’t expecting them to say, in a voice that was clear as day and as smooth as a night with no stars,
“Their way.”

Summary
Tenna sprang to his feet, his screen lighting up in a wide grin. "Flowery!"
Excitement sparked through his circuits as he slid over to his old companion. "Gosh, I haven't seen you since…well, it's been AGES! How've you…"
Tenna's voice trailed off as his gaze fell on the large swaths of bandages wrapped around Flowery's waist. Splotches of flowers peeked through the edges, staining them yellow. "…been."
Tenna and Flowery meet again, one last time.

Summary
Noelle angles her head to follow Susie's gaze over to the the perforated picnic table where Kris is no longer folded over and slumped like forgotten laundry. It's empty.
She has a sixth sense of sorts that exists specifically for Kris. Kris has always been odd, and maybe it's because of that others haven't been able to distinguish Kris-typical strangeness from what they've started to become. But Noelle can. That's precisely the reason that she can tell something's been off about them for awhile now.
And that's precisely why even while her head was furrowed against the softness where Susie's beating heart pulsed frantically into her ear, all she could hear was the intense rattling of the ferris wheel shaking.
Susie and Noelle find that they lose their footing without their third wheel.

Summary
“That girl of yours gave me a proper beating before I left,” Spike says.
“She’s not my girl,” Buffy says.
“You might not be hers, but she’s yours.”
“Not so sure about that anymore.”
“I’m sure. I’ve seen that look in myself—that high on Buffy Summers rot that ruins a man,” Spike says. “Or a woman, apparently.”
“I’m so tired of ruining people,” Buffy sighs.
Spike's face softens. “Buffy, I didn’t– I just mean you’re bloody brilliant and brilliance can be maddening.”
“Just once I’d like to be unbrilliant,” Buffy says, frowning.
Or: Faith, Buffy, and one night in an empty house.

Summary
Buffy is pissed off.
She should be relieved or happy or tired or anything but instead she’s angry. Angry that Spike is gone and that she finally told him she loved him and he didn’t believe it. Sure, she’s been fucking Faith a lot lately, but he knows—knew—better than anyone that she could still care for him. Whatever. It’s complicated.
Spike’s dead and it’s fucking complicated. And her entire home is gone forever along with all her stuff which isn’t important when Spike’s dead, but she still cares. (The weapons chest Xander made her. Mr. Gordo. Spike’s lighter. All of it.)
So she’s not relieved. She’s not excited to be alive when maybe Spike’s somewhere where Buffy could join him—not heaven, but maybe? He has—had—a soul now and he was all do-goody and repenty. How stupid are you? Obviously he’s not in heaven.
Even when he was good, he wasn’t all that good, that bitter, hurt part of Buffy reminds hers.
Or: The hellmouth is gone, and Buffy has nothing to do for the first time in years. Except, well, Faith.
