There had been so many moments growing up when Ilya was certain Alexei wanted him dead. Or at least hurt him badly enough that the message would stick. Sometimes it wasn't even from their physical fights. Sometimes it was just from the way Alexei looked at him. With that particular expression of pure disdain. Like Ilya's very existence was an offense Alexei had to endure.
Maybe that's how Max and Niko were starting to see each other now. Maybe this was how it started.

“Hm?” Ilya tried hard to focus on Shane’s words but Shane felt too good, the pressure of his ass on Ilya’s crotch too maddeningly distracting.
Shane leaned in so that his mouth was now right on Ilya’s ear, stilling his movements. “I said,” he breathed hotly, “you like it? Being my dog?”
And this was new. The words sent an electric shock down Ilya’s spine, making him involuntarily thrust up into Shane. Ilya swallowed, closing his eyes and nodding furiously, as Shane nibbled on his ear lobe and sucked sweetly at the skin there.
“Speak,” Shane said simply, the same tone he used when talking to Chiron or Anya. When talking to dogs.
“Fuck,” Ilya choked out. “Yes, da, yes, I like being your dog.”

The details of this strange scenario flood his imagination as Ilya stews in his envy. He wonders what it would be like for Hollander to hit him. Ilya would like it, he’s sure, however painful it’d be.
He wonders if Hollander would like it, too, and if he’d like Ilya to hit back. The answers come to him quickly, as if fed to him by the man himself.

Summary
Ilya knows that no one loves the same version of a person; his Shane is different to Yuna’s Shane, who is different to David’s Shane, who is different to J.J., or Rose, or Hayden’s Shane. And while Ilya knows he’d fall in love with every single version, he’s happy he gets this one. Happy he gets the Shane who lets himself be trusting, and vulnerable, and honest.
It makes Ilya wish he could have loved Shane earlier - makes him wish he could have known him longer. But he’s just glad he gets to do it now, here, like this.
