Project Hail Mary has dragged on for almost five years. There are schoolchildren today that were hardly alive, and certainly not conscious, when the news came out that the sun was dying. There are adults who were children in the same period.
Four years' worth of schoolchildren from all across the globe have sent mail to the Project, to her, to Grace and to the astronauts. Stratt has made sure it has all ended up in this room.

"Someone should write Rocky trying to tell Grace that he loves him and Grace doesn't understand and is using a bunch of other words. Once they get it Grace has to describe what love means and Rocky just says it over and over to him."
I really need that man to know he's loved, especially on the way to Erid, while he's leaving everything else behind because he loves his friend.
