Would things have been different in Shane and Ilya's early relationship if they had the influence of some more functional queer friends? In 2013, Theatre major Daniel Ortega joined the Boston Raiders as their new mascot: Clarence the Camel. He's excited to have some gainful employment that's at least tangentially related to to his major, even if he's had some issues in the dating realm as a result. He meets Riley, the mascot for the Montreal Metros, who tells him all about the romantic drama going on between the Metros and the Raiders. Little does he know, that Riley has his own secrets.

Shane’s mind was whirring: he needed to remember that Dillon was weaker on his left so Shane needed to make sure to guard him there. He needed to let Ilya kiss him in front of everyone. Haas was fast enough to fill gaps on the right, but he was also a little insecure sometimes so Shane needed to help bolster that. Shane was supposed to let Ilya hug him in front of everyone. If Ilya noticed Shane was freaking out, he didn’t say anything.
Set at the beginning of pre-season practice during Shane's first season with the Ottawa Centaurs, this story explores Ilya and Shane's mental health struggles, the many changes happening in their relationship in the last few months, and the language barrier between them.

This is set in the X-men/X2 time period with a flashback to First Class era. The X-men think that if Charles and Erik would just get over themselves and get back together again things would be much more peaceful. Honestly, this started as a crack fic idea, but as I started writing it became a very serious contemplation of their love and the complications that would come from them trying to make it work.
