And Gabriel, in the wreckage of everything he used to be, made a decision that Hell saw coming long before he did. He is going to find the machine that ruined him. He is going to claim it. They craned their neck at a sharper angle, audials straining to hear him.
“No – beyond that, I wish for you to find some other way and live. For me.”
Hell does not bestow upon the victor of its simulated bloodbath with a crown of laurels, but an ultimatum.
V1 knows that triumph is their demise.

“Tell me, Machine,”
Gabriel took a knee in front of the wreckage that remained of its body, plunging Justice and Splendor into the frozen ground to either side. He couldn’t quite look the machine in the eye as he mulled over what he wanted to say. Gabriel had been holding onto the question from the very moment the Father’s Light was rent from his body. The desire to ask struck him almost as violently as his initial horror when searing pain seemed like it would never subsist. He wanted to know he wasn’t alone in his newly recognized mortality. Perhaps its what stopped Justice from penetrating deep into the machines core now that it lay at his mercy.

Summary
He hadn’t exactly enjoyed his first times watching V1 “ENGAGE THE GRIND”, as it had said. Seeing hoards of minor hellspawn become puddles of gore at the various hands of the machine was nothing new to Gabriel - he had watched it do so extensively in reality, after all.
He thought it had all seemed… unnecessary. A waste of time. Pointless.
But witnessing V1 in this arena, a beacon of blue and bullets and blood staining the way-too colorful floors would yet again prove his previous thoughts wrong. As it has done many times now.

Summary
Optimization is V1’s specialty. From projectile punching to explosion-propelled feats of acceleration, V1 was made to make itself better: faster. To achieve maximum performance, it opts to optimize its energy usage. A more efficient source of biofuel may exist—but V1 needs a means to extract it. A particular peripheral used by Mindflayers seems promising.
V1 intends to test it on Gabriel. There must be something better than blood.
