Summary
Lately, he and Izuku only texted once every two weeks, or even less—a random meme one of them found on twitter, the usual “hey u alive?”, and the monthly check-up video call.
It was normally Izuku who initiated the conversations nowadays, though, Katsuki found it easier to not think about the fact that his best friend didn’t love him back if they weren't constantly texting.
Not that he succeeded, anyway.

Or: the lines between being best friends and something more (or less) become blurrier as Izuku and Katsuki put distance and time between them.

Gwaine scoffed as he crossed his arms over his chest, chin jutted out as he resolutely shook his head.
"No way. We can handle ourselves without Merlin for two days...Well, some of us can." He clicked his tongue with a nod towards the other three. Leon frowned.
"What are you trying to say?"
"That we didn’t grow up with servants," Elyan snorted "I know it’s a scary thought but...we can actually survive a hunt without Merlin’s stew." He said. Gwaine gasped in fake shock.
"We don’t need a servant," Arthur piped up immediately, chest puffing out in defiance "Hell, with how Merlin is, I’ve pretty much been without a servant for years!"
"Great!" Percival said and jerked his head "Then let’s go."
Or
The knights go on a hunt without a servant because Merlin is sick. Obviously it goes fantastic.

Summary
The boy straightens up. He’s about half a head shorter than Katsuki, face soft and youthful and sweet. He turns to look at him properly. His dark hair shines in the dying light, basket of blooms looped over one arm and mouth quirked into a tiny half-smile. The sun hits his face and makes his eyes a bright greeny-gold, just like emeralds.
Katsuki likes emeralds.
“Pretty,” he says, reaching out and picking the stranger up around the middle. He’s surprisingly heavy, although Katsuki doesn’t mind. “I like you. Come see my nest.”
The boy hits him.
He’s stronger than he looks, turns out. Katsuki drops him and falls onto his back, pain blooming across his face. Birds sing. The sky’s a lovely shade of orange, clouds floating lazily by. The boy scarpers. He leaves his basket of flowers behind, footsteps thumping on the ground and fading away as he escapes.
The sun sets. Katsuki, lying flat on his back with a bloody nose, decides he’s just fallen in love.
