But at some point he realizes that he might be the best option his brothers have to recover from the cycle of violence that Batman has set up, and all he can think is that things were much easier when he was the villain.

Three monumental things happened in 1990:
Firstly, Fleamont and Euphemia Potter put their foot down and forced their son James to marry a witch they approved of.
Secondly, Albus Dumbledore decided to try one last time to hire a Divination Professor.
Thirdly, a witch called Lily Evans developed a counter for the Imperius Curse.
But as far as Harry Evans was concerned, nearly two decades later and half a world away, none of these events had anything to do with his life. He was just trying to get by as an Ilvermorny graduate and single teen father in a dangerous world. He’s got bigger problems than magical civil wars on the other side of the planet.
Albus Dumbledore, however, would disagree. With the resurrection of the Dark Lord Voldemort, all eyes have turned to a prophecy predicting a wizard who would be the Dark Lord’s downfall. The nation’s hopes rested on James Potter’s son Nate, famous for surviving the unsurvivable and killing the Dark Lord as a baby seventeen years previously. AU where Robert has powers his dad forced him to suppress in his youth. Upon stepping into the role of Mecha Man Blue, Robert runs himself into the ground physically, mentally, and financially to uphold his family’s legacy. It’s what he was born and raised for, after all. He can’t afford to fuck it up. He’s nothing outside of it. His dad was so keen on drilling that into his head.
…with that kind of pressure on him, is it any wonder he starts to act out? It really shouldn’t be surprising that he needs to let off some steam, some charge, so he doesn’t lose his cool doing real hero work. Call him a hypocrite. Call him a supervillain in a hero’s suit. Robert’s long since past the point of caring.
It’s just a shame he’s working so closely with people who know the hallmarks of a real villain a lot better than he would like them to. He’ll have to keep his work and his fun separate, for the team’s sake if nothing else. They mean a lot to him. He genuinely wants to help them succeed in their redemption arcs.
But he has no intention of stopping. Not when he’s finally back in his prime.

He is in an orphanage and, he looks down at his hands with a familiar hollow ache in his chest, and he is a child.
He is dead, and he is in an orphanage, and he is a child.
Kabuto laughs and laughs and laughs.

Or, a deeply unstable Root graduate with no concept of selfhood and only the most tenuous grasp of what sanity might be supposed to look like in sterile lab conditions makes friends, does his best to figure out how independence is supposed to work, terrifies a lot of responsible adults (and less responsible "peers") who really just want to help, and fends off “I can fix him” attempts on all sides (reciprocating with an “I can make him worse” aoe aura). Depressing introspection and unfortunate perspective gaps are only to be expected. This is the best Kabuto's mental health has been ... ever, and the eighth panic attack Hizashi has had this week.
