Power is a fascinating thing. Even with the shock collar, voice removal, and altogether altered code by LettuceK, Wemmbu isn't going to let himself give into what Lettuce wants. He'll get out of here. No matter how long it takes.
And, of course, Lettuce is counting on him to think exactly that. Every little move the demon makes just lands him further under the LAW's control - who would've thought that the urge to obey can fill in so many wounds in a 'person'?
OR: perhaps the best way to train a dog is to turn its own escape against it, and convince it that it wants it.

Summary
Jadens fingers lightly hits his shoulder, playing, perhaps, some kind of rhythm. Wemmbu turns to him to find his eyes filled with that not-quite-pity look that only makes him feel worse about himself. He is too strong to be fucking pitied.
That's not what Jaden does, he thinks, again stopping himself from thinking bad about his friend. It is becoming a habit. He needs those shitty thoughts gone. If he thinks like that about his friends they will fucking leave him too.

“I’m dying," Egg says, one easy summer afternoon in their treehouse.“What?” Wemmbu asks. “No. No, Egg, you aren’t. That’s not funny, bro,” he insists. "You’re not. Are you? You’re not, right?” he pleads. His mind is in a tailspin, utterly lost and confused because Egg is his day-one.
In the beginning, there was Wemmbu and there was Egg, playing in the rose-gardens and daring each other to fly across the void, and in the end there will be Wemmbu and there will be Egg, bleeding away on some blown-up battlefield.
“I am,” Egg says, gently. “I’ve been sick for a long time,” Egg continues, and he looks down at the midnight pants of his suit, almost ashamed. He sighs, looking up and meeting Wemmbu’s eyes again. “I’m going to die in three days,” he says.
