He misses him in the morning.
The quiet warmth of waking beside someone, of the plush covers pulled over both of them, limbs tangled, the way Ajax always lies on his left side so he can watch the door even in sleep — obstensibly protecting Zhongli, who has never needed any protection but is certainly not going to protest it. The way Ajax is awake first - but too content to rise, forgoing his usual sparring practices just to contemplate Zhongli in the gentleness of Liyue's sunrise. He'll lean to kiss Zhongli oh so softly the moment the ex-Archon starts to stir, and Zhongli does not understand how one simple gesture can now be such a cornerstone to his entire existence. The kiss, and then the soft greeting, and the check in with each other - to make sure the other is okay, that they slept well, that their dreams were sweet, and even then they are lazy and languid, until they really should get up and address their different duties.
Zhongli misses Ajax.

“You look so stressed.” Childe chuckles lightheartedly as he caresses his husband’s temple.
Zhongli just sighs as he presses his lips to Childe’s forehead. “I deeply worry for you.”
“You always get excessively worried.“ The off-duty Harbinger replies. “I’m fine. I’ll be fine.” He confidently says. “So be a proud and happy parent like I am.” Childe whispers as he rubs Zhongli's arm up and down assuringly.When the other’s finally fast asleep once again, Zhongli slowly pulls their blanket to properly cover Childe’s body. His hand grips the edge of the blanket tightly as a heavy burden rests silently within his heart.
Please, have mercy on your mother.

The door flies open. Zhongli stares at him, eyes a bit wild. He hasn’t changed out of his day clothes, and the gold thread on his robes shimmer and dance with every minute movement. For a moment, they both look at each other.
Then Childe blinks. “Can I come in?” he asks, a bit helplessly, lifting a bloodstained hand as if to show it off.
Zhongli does not say anything, but he opens the door wider and steps aside.
Injured and bloody, Childe shows up at Zhongli’s doorstep after months of distance.

Childe folds his arms despite how his left side protests. "Quite right, I am sure you are very busy in the aftermath of prophecy in your nation. I shall graciously allow a delay until you are otherwise not engaged."
Mr Tartaglia broke up with Zhongli some time ago. Neuvillette is curious about this.
