Summary
Wei Wuxian had insisted it was all his own fault - he had been goofing around, and not paying attention to his duty, and grabbed thoughtlessly at a poisonous patch without looking.
Later, Lan Wangji had confessed another version of the story to his family. One that involved his ribbon being suddenly caught in a mess of bramble thorns. The youth had been so upset at his Lan ribbon being snatched away from him that he acted without control. Wei Wuxian had intervened, batting the other youth's hand away from a vicious thicket of brambles, taking the curse for himself in place of the boy he loved to tease.
Teenage Wei Wuxian is sick. In his feverish state, he doesn't recognize that the person caring for him is Lan Wangji.
