It had been getting worse lately.
The ache was always there to some degree, buried beneath everything else like a constant dull burn underneath his skin, but flare ups like this were unbearable. It felt like his nerves were being dragged across broken glass every single time he moved his fingers wrong.

“You didn’t have any holidays like this up there?” Riyo asked him, propping an elbow up on the table and leaning her face on her palm, facing him. She pointed straight up with her other hand, clearly referring to the Sphere.
“Nothing like this,” Rudo said emphatically, gesturing vaguely even though this room wasn’t decorated like the mess hall or the town. They’d get the point. “Nothing that I’ve seen with decorations like you guys have here. Nothing so…colorful. And cheerful. Everyone out there today looked so… actually happy.”
Rudo gets introduced to a Ground holiday. It is entirely different to what the word holiday has meant to him all his life.

Enjin was not, had never been, and would likely never be a dad - regardless of the fact that he legally had kids. Except .. it just so happened that when one of those kids lost himself to a headspace smaller than usual, Enjin sort of did become a dad. That was okay, he could be a dad sometimes. But this was just too much. He wasn't just going to sit here as the blonde suffered. Nor was he going to allow some unworthy villagers to harm his student further.
Naruto would always be cared for as long as he was around. And he'd be sure that the sunshine blonde knew it.

Finally turning to meet her gaze, sunglasses perched low on his nose, Satoru shrugs. "You're the best at lullabies."
Okay. Deep breaths, Kanae. Closing her eyes, she considers.
Her knee-jerk reaction is a firm no, as it always is when the jujutsu elders are involved, but... how often is it that Satoru asks her for anything? And she owes him her life, everything she has and is and will become. Based on that alone, she has to. He'd never force her to do anything she doesn't want to, but he saved her, practically raised her, and has never asked for anything in return. How can she say no? And with a real, actual life in the balance, it's not really a choice. She can't—won't—let some innocent kid with shitty luck die.
Beyond that, though, Kanae wants to help. She wants to lighten Satoru's load, even if only a little. She wants to do good where she can, no matter the scale. For as long as she can remember, that's all she's ever wanted.
Her eyes open. "Yeah, okay. I'll do it."
He watches her with eyes that see too much.
"You're sure? You know you don't have to, right?"
"Yeah, I know," she says, smiling softly at him. "When do we leave?"
