Summary
Rocinante had rehearsed what he would say to Law, when they finally caught up with his new crew. He’d gone through scenario after scenario, an old habit borne of Sengoku’s coaching to first combat his paralyzing childhood anxiety and later to survive among his brother’s crew.
None of the scenarios he’d prepared for had involved a lanky youth in a hat taking one look at him and going white. “Shit!” he blurted, scrambling to his feet.
They had also never involved his redheaded companion throwing the wrench in his hand directly at Rocinante’s head. “Take that, you feathered FUCK!”

Summary

Summary
When Sabo fails to speak, Ace turns and gives him a smile that's all teeth; mirthless. "It's people like us, 'Bo. The people that hang around the Terminal. We're nothing more than termites."
Vaguely, he remembers Ace telling him something like that a little after they'd become partners. He hadn't really understood it at the time, just that the word made Ace's childish face twist with disdain, so he'd disliked it as well on principle.
Now, Sabo understands perfectly. That budding dislike quickly graduates to hatred.
(snippets of the brothers’ lives after the sake ceremony, except the people are a little meaner, the universe is a little nicer, and sabo has a little more righteous anger stashed away for future use.)

They say they don't mind, that they can survive just fine without them, but Sabo sees the way their expressions dim whenever they try to stretch or gesture or even express emotions and are blocked by a constant ache.
When he sets out, Sabo is going to help his brothers heal, and he will stop at nothing to make it happen.

“Wano Fighting Fish,” Mihawk says easily. He lets himself look. Decent musculature, no obvious signs of injury or malnutrition or otherwise ill health, but- pale. Sluggish, for all that he’d tried lashing out. Hair grown out longer than it used to be, and almost certainly not by choice. The jagged-edged broadsword decoration sticking up from the bottom of the bowl feels particularly insulting. “A pod of them has regularly migrated past my family’s island since I was a lad.”
“Here in the East Blue? My, what do you want to bet that’s where this fish came from! And here I thought he must have gotten lost and wandered over from the other side of the globe!”
The young mer again bares his teeth.

Garp’s never been one for caring about soulmarks.
Sure, they come in handy sometimes, the universe’s way of whacking someone upside the head to make sure they know who to pay attention to, but that’s only if that someone is being an idiot. Garp knew he’d found a couple of great friends in Senny and Tsuru way before the other two relaxed enough to roll up their trousers and share the triad marks on all of their shins. Knew he would chase Roger to the far end of the seas and back long before a fight revealed the matching fist-and-blade combo on each of their lower backs.
Understood without a second’s hesitation that he would always love the little slip of a baby handed to him even before the blob on his palm finished resolving into a tiny green dragon wreathed in stormclouds.

Summary
In a different universe, Portgas D. Ace keeps running.
And instead of receiving a magma fist to the chest courtesy of Akainu, he gets to watch a blinding beam of light eradicate Monkey D. Luffy's heart while he stands less than two feet away. A different series of world events kick into motion, one of which is the unveiling of a new, unique human weapon under the designation ICARUS, or IX-0.
IX-0 is under orders to patrol and vet the pirates trying to enter into the New World, and it's been going great. About a year and a half after its deployment, it encounters a small, captainless crew with dreams each more impossible than the one before. That should be the end of it, but IX-0 finds itself following them into the New World in search of something it can't explain.
There's just something about the Strawhat Pirates.
