Summary
The First Talon, Lucanis Dellamorte, is called out from behind his desk to take a contract in Minrathous. His days have been filled with bureaucracy and wrangling angry carrion birds, so he accepts without hesitation.
His target is Magister Corvantius, also known as the Rook, a fixture at the top of the Tevinter Imperium. He keeps progress at bay, maintains the existing order, and has survived every attempt on his life to date.
Lucanis accepts eagerly, without fully grasping the scale of the job. Seasons turn, and cities celebrate, but their stalemate holds. Two men who only know how to do their work remain stuck in time.

Summary

A moment passes as the short and slim man stares at his extended hand. His dark eyes flick around as if assessing the situation.
It’s a hand, man, not a poisoning attempt.
The man shakes it and introduces himself as “Lucanis” warily. He offers no further words or small talk. The whole touch seems unpleasant to him. He holds his hand up in the air after—like it burns and needs the soothing of the cold sea air.
The immediate problem is, that they are, in fact, travelling together and in love. They just have no recollection of any of it.

Summary
Some blame fell on the Antivan Crows’ training methods and traditions, but that was not the whole reason. She was a product of the same traditions, and instead of stopping the cycle, she perpetuated it — adding her own generational Dellamorte cruelty to it. There were no gentle ways to train thoughtless weapons to wield knives for the Crows; it was always a sacrifice. In order to take a life, you had to shut down the insides that screamed about morality, the suffering of those left behind, and the need for justification.
