Carla pulled out two very familiar cases from her purse and handed them over. “Somebody was snooping in your closet.”
Eddie took the cases, automatically handing Buck’s to him. He already knew what it was; didn’t want to open it up like the boxes in his mind he kept the associated memories squared away in. He did anyway, the Silver Star medal shining up at him.
“Why do we keep these in the same place?” Buck lamented, looking at his own Navy Cross.
Eddie snapped the case shut, taking Buck’s from him and doing the same, effectively shutting out the sound of helicopter blades. “I don’t know.”

Summary
Buck still has gel in his hair from the last shift. He hasn’t had a shower since then. The most he’s done is baby wipes in the places he feels gross. He hopes Eddie doesn’t notice.
“Hey,” Buck says, stuffing the ends of the laces into his boot.
“You didn’t text me this morning,” Eddie turns around and sits on the bench next to Buck. Normally that would make Buck smile, but instead he sticks his head down so Eddie doesn’t see.
“Yeah, I got busy and didn’t realize until I pulled in next to your truck.” Buck lies, easy as anything else. He doesn’t even have to think about it. Buck’s been covering for himself for so long, he kind of hates himself for how second nature lying is, especially to Eddie.

Buddie Week 2020 Day Three: “Is that blood?” “...No” + Hurt
Work used to be his one escape for the constant emptiness inside. In the past, walking through the firehouse doors could brighten even his darkest moods. Now, he spent his workdays trying to distance himself from his family colleagues. They would all leave him eventually, it was time he prepared himself for the inevitable. During their long shifts, Buck would volunteer to do as many chores as possible as long as it kept him away from everyone else. The only time he truly had a conversation with anyone was on a call, just when it was necessary.

How did nobody notice?
A harsh sob tears from his throat and he throws his arms around Buck, tucking his face in his neck and holding on as tightly as he dares. He apologizes through his tears, though he's not sure if his words are coherent, and if they are, that Buck knows what he's apologizing for.
Buck holds him back just as tightly, Eddie isn't sure where his trembling ends and Buck's begins.

He finally starts to think back on Maddie's worried face when she told him about it, and he thinks that maybe Maddie knew before he did that he was sick.
Maybe she knew before he did that he'd get the urge to do something like this. Maybe she knew that he wouldn't know how to stop.
If Buck weren't so tired, he might have teared up a little when he imagined the worried look in his big sister's eyes.
