Summary
"It was in the couch," Buck complains. He prods at the arm of it, looking aggrieved. "You've gotta teach this guy not to take other people's things."
"Why is that my responsibility?"
Buck twists his neck to look up at Eddie from where he's putting the sock back on, expression incredulous. "It's your couch," he justifies, once all ten toes are back in captivity. "You—brought it into this world."
"Mm-mm," Eddie hums, lips pursed, head shaking. "I want a paternity test. That couch looks nothing like me."
"You sure? You're both kinda, y'know, square. Wide—hey!" Buck yelps, because Eddie has picked up a throw pillow and is using it as a weapon against the side of Buck's head with one hand. (The other is occupied stiff-arming his beer to keep it from spilling on his... second-born, apparently.) "You didn't let me finish! You're—inviting," Buck laughs, winded, "and—and soft, and comfortable—"
Or: Buck can't seem to stop losing things in Eddie's couch.

Summary
Buck knows three things for certain, and one thing for maybe.
Number one: Eddie does not have a POA.
Number two: if the doctors had come to the waiting room to ask what the group had thought Eddie’s wishes were, all eyes would’ve turned to Buck.
Number three: isn’t that what a POA is, really?
The maybe: Eddie would put Buck in his will a second time.Or: Eddie's hurt on the job. Again. Buck spreads misinformation in the waiting room.

Summary
He told himself he could always stop. Every morning, he looked in the bathroom mirror and swore that today was the day he would draw the line. He would be professional. He would be the older, wiser colleague. He would leave the cedar-heavy cologne on the shelf so he left no trace behind.
But then the day would end and François would find himself walking down the carpeted hotel hallway, his heart hammering a frantic rhythm, waiting for the knock on his door to come.
And it always did.

Summary
Connor’s heart beat a frantic, uneven rhythm against his ribs.
He didn't care about the other guy back in California. He couldn't afford to care.
For weeks, they had danced around each other — the lingering looks, the accidental brushes of knees under the craft services table, the way François’ gaze would drop to Connor’s mouth when he thought Connor wasn't paying attention.
But he never had an opportunity like this.
Tonight, though, Connor was going to be in François’ private space, and he was absolutely going to make his move.

Summary
“Don’t worry, guys,” Hen calls, crossing the last of the space between them, “it’s nothing serious. Our Buck just had a certain kind of dream about someone from this team.”
“It’s no big deal,” Buck says, but his face is still flushed.
“As long as it wasn’t about me, I agree,” Chim says, and Buck immediately pulls a face.
“Ew, no,” he groans. “You’re married to my sister.”
“And your captain,” Chimney adds, but then pauses. “Though I guess that’s not really a deterrent.”
Everyone laughs, and Eddie remembers a second too late that he should join in. It’s just– if the dream wasn’t about Chimney, who was it about? Hen is a lesbian, and he really doesn’t think Buck could ever be into her like that. Ravi? He and Buck are partners now, and he sees them laugh and joke all the time, but…it’d be weird, right? Wrong, somehow.
“So who was it about, then?” Ravi asks with a big grin. “Wait, don’t tell me – it was totally about Eddie, wasn’t it?”

“Chris,” Eddie says, nudging him. “You wanna say hi? Properly?”
Christopher flips him off, discreetly, and then to Theo he says very sweetly, “Hi, Theo.”
Buck’s heart swells to thrice the size of whatever it was, and he’s hit with a rush of love so intense he’s tearing up with it. Eddie’s no better, eyes sparkling.
“Hi,” Theo says, and then presses himself back towards Buck, clutching his spider–man tightly. “You’re Buck’s big best friend.”
Christopher grins. “I am, yeah,” he says, cheesing so hard. “You’re Buck’s tiny best friend, aren’t you?”
Theo nods shyly. “Yeah.”
Christopher holds out his hand, tilting his head. “I’m Chris,” he says, and Theo takes it, his small hand cradled perfectly in Christopher’s palm. “What’s your name?”
“Hi Kiss,” Theo says, in awe. “My name is Theo.”

Summary
For a split second, Eddie sees Buck's face in his mind's eye, brows pulled together and a twist to his mouth. Are you sure you want a trailer? There is a much higher risk of trailer sway when you're driving a truck. Head laid to the side, knuckles dragging across the table, I'll be fine, Buck.
Bit of a miscalculation maybe, Eddie thinks.
Then the truck flips.

Summary
The water is hot. Pleasantly so. Roiling gently thanks to the jets. Eddie plunges into it with a sigh pulled from somewhere deep. He sinks onto the bench and tips his head back, submerged enough to rest it comfortably against the ledge of the tub behind him. The water rises as he settles, lapping at his collarbones. Beneath its surface, he stretches his legs out.
It’s a quiet night. The neighborhood children are all tucked up in bed by now, the cars parked in driveways for the evening. The windows are shut, so are the sliding glass doors to yards; the distant, twinkling sounds of conversation and laughter from within long since muted. The noise of the city is inescapable, but here, it’s softer. Further off. It’s almost easy for it to fade into the background in this little corner of suburbia. Instead, crickets chirp from the bushes, the stray croak of a frog from somewhere in the grass joins their song. Overhead, string lights weave through the patio cover beams, casting the porch in a soft, warm glow.
It’s nice here, in Buck’s new backyard. Peaceful.
But, maybe that’s more to do with the company, than the ambiance.

Summary
Eddie lounges on the bed, idly scrolling on his phone, listening to Buck’s off-key singing in the shower. It’s always the same, Buck likes his showers hot enough to scald, coming out of the bathroom in a cloud of steam, pink and scrubbed, and Eddie knows tonight will be no different, waiting as the water shuts off and Buck comes into the room, backlit by the bright lights of the en suite, naked and still dripping as Eddie watches and enjoys.
To the casual observer it might seem like Buck moves aimlessly about the room, flitting from nightstand to chest of drawers to laundry basket but Eddie knows the routine, the steps plotted out in Buck’s head. He’s not complaining about the view he gets either; Buck’s broad shoulders and strong thighs, littered with tattoos chosen by a Buck Eddie didn’t know, the softness of his belly and hips, his strength, right to the core of him. Buck is fastidious with his waxing routine, water still dripping from his hair, running slowly over his collarbones and quickly down his smooth chest. Eddie watches a drop all the way from Buck’s neck to his hip. He wants to chase it with his tongue. He wants to suck the water out of Buck’s hair. Lap at him until he’s damp with Eddie’s spit instead.

Summary
“I never want you to shut up,” Eddie grunts, collapsing over his back, parted mouth landing against his temple, curls tickling his lips as he rails him just a little bit harder, still.
“Fuck, I know,” Buck groans again—loud, filthy, practically shaking apart.
“Wanna hear—god—wanna hear everything you got to say,” he grunts with a sloppy, messy kiss to his birthmark as the filthy clapping of their sweaty flesh colliding threatens to drown out the sound of their moans. “Always. God, I love your brain.”

Summary
And yeah, Buck’s been doing his best to tease Eddie all night, draping himself over the pool table, giving him shit about his game, playing with the straw of his drink with his tongue in increasingly suggestive ways. Eddie’s been taking whatever he dishes out, that little indulgent smirk Buck loves so much playing over his face all night. The one that tells Buck Eddie’s going to get his revenge the second they get home.
That’s what Buck thinks is happening, at least. Right up until Eddie drags him into the bar’s single-stall bathroom, pushes him up against the door and kisses him hard enough that Buck goes dizzy.

Summary
Every unspoken thing between them has a shape, and Eddie's finally ready to name it.
-----
And it’s early, the sunlight soft as it gilds Buck’s unshaven cheeks and Buck’s bare chest. Eddie chases it across his skin, sitting cross-legged beside Buck on the bed after returning from using the bathroom. Chris is still asleep, and they have the day off, and Eddie just . . . wants. He wants Buck in his bed, and in his kitchen, and in his car. He wants their names on legal papers, and the mortgage, and Chris’s school forms. He recognizes the shape of Buck’s affection in the curve of his mouth, the color of it in his eyes, the way it sounds on his tongue when he says, “Morning, Eds.” He wants to claim it. He wants it to be his.
Why this morning and not any other doesn’t matter. It only matters that it’s here, and now, and he’s ready. He’s ready.

The new house is too clean. Too quiet. Buck drops his keys on the counter just to hear them hit something, but the sound dies too fast. It’s not like the Diaz house, where there was always noise, laughter, life. He’s getting good at pretending it doesn’t ache, but after Chris and Eddie boomeranged back from Texas something was knocked out of place within him on the rebound.
He didn't duck in time.
Or, Buck starts faltering when Eddie touches him. Eddie notices.
