"Let's see, let's see…No, not that one. No, we can't do that…" he mused, not seeming to find the answers he was looking for. He gave up soon enough, throwing the papers onto the desk as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Nope, not a single script for the 'Stanley Clips Through The Ceiling and Ends Up In The Narrator’s Office Ending'. Well, isn't that just fantastic?"
The Narrator plopped down in his chair in a way that bordered on the theatrical, a low sound of defeat escaping him.
"Damn it all, Stanley," he said, gaze fixed on the ceiling as if he couldn't bear to look Stanley in the eye.
"I didn't want to have to do this, but we'll have to go completely off script until I sort out this mess you've…we've made. Should be no problem for you, you're a master at improvising."

Stanley's brows furrowed as he thought back on it. There hadn't been a loading screen, had there?
No, there hadn’t been. Thinking about it now, Stanley couldn't remember anything that would normally signal a reset, save for feeling like he had.
So, they weren't in a game. It was strange, as Stanley wasn't sure exactly how they had stopped being in a game, but weirder things had happened in the parable.

After a seemingly endless string of loops of the same story, Stanley and The Narrator were quick to notice when something was different. The changes were subtle, but they held implications for the very nature of The Parable! What does their story mean, if it isn't a video game? What are the conventions of this new medium? And perhaps most importantly, what will the age rating be?

Maybe, if The Narrator wasn’t doing his absolute best to ignore Stanley’s nonsense, he would have already noticed that something isn’t quite right here. How very easy it is to forget that he has a number; a number that corresponds to an office, no less. Silly man. He should have been more careful.
The Narrator stands and whirls around just in time to see Stanley start to wander in, expecting another empty office. Stanley freezes when he realises that the office is very much not empty.
