The strange man looks really similar to Arthur, same heigh, same colours, same way of dressing. But there’s sharpness in his jaw, a cutting edge in his cheekbones and when they get close enough to stop in front of him, Arthur can look in his eyes and see they’re yellow.
A shade of honey.
Arthur shakes his head. “Who -?”
The stranger chuckles at him, “Don’t you remember, friend?” And Arthur recognizes him.
The voice it’s the same it was in his head, same intonation, same depth. Arthur feels like crying.
“John.”
The man smiles, his thin red lips opening over sharp teeth, like a bloody wound exposing bone. “Arthur.”
“Daddy!” Faroe exclaims and she throws herself at Arthur, hugging his legs. -

“I knew you would come,” Elias tells him, a smug complacent smile on his thin lips that Jon would like nothing better than to wipe away. “I’m glad to see you’ve decided to wake up from your death.”
Elias is too satisfied for a man who has been thrown into prison. Jon can’t help but feel there’s a trap hidden somewhere in his compliance.
“I thought you couldn’t see the future,” Jon says instead, taking the seat in front of him. The chair scrapes on the floor and the noise almost covers the sound of a tape recorder turning on on its own. Jon didn’t have one in his bag when he passed the metal detector.
“Indeed, I can’t. But I’ve known people long enough to know how they react. And I’ve known you long enough to know you wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to know more.” -

It’s just how things have shaken out. He’s entirely a researcher now that he’s alchemy free and lacks any actual military training. It’s not like they need to stuff him into a bullpen or massive office where he has to suffer through stupid military regulation, mandatory firearm training, and fervent ass kissing. He likes the quiet of a personal office and the ability to do his work somewhere else whenever he feels like it.

After all, he made quite the striking figure. Wild orange hair, a permanent scowl, and power that clung tightly to his skin, it really was not an exaggeration that everyone knew him, or at the least, knew about him.
Everyone, it seemed but Urahara Kisuke himself.
The very same Urahara Kisuke who as of today was the captain of the 12th.
