Rose often commits the crime of leaving the palace at ungodly hours to escape the idea of inheriting responsibility for hundreds of thousands of peoples lives, and her mother's dissatisfied gaze. She is restless for a life of surprise and freedom. Leaving in stolen commons clothing, she walks the streets of the people she is doomed to rule over, gazing at the moon and the normal people living their lives with ability to do whatever they please. Her mother would forbid this, not just for the uncleanness and improperness, but for there are whispers of unnatural beings taking the commons lives and feeding on their blood to survive. Rose assumed it was just rumor, maybe a group of young people wanting to scare, until she met one face to face.
