“You know I’m not judging you,” Tenna huffed. “It’s fine if you want to dye your hair! I was just curious.” Spamton’s forced smile slowly withered down into a small frown. He grabbed a loose strand of hair between his thumb and forefinger, spinning it in his grip. Tenna crossed his arms expectantly as he watched Spamton mull over how he wanted to respond. He really didn’t see what the big deal was.
“Fine, yeah, I dye it,” Spamton admitted finally. He gestured at his hair with his free hand. “Gotta have a signature style.”
“Oh,” Tenna said. “Oh, yes, of course!” He laughed to himself. “I’m all for it! It does rather suit your brand!”OR: Tenna discovers that Spamton dyes his hair and it quickly snowballs into something bigger than he was expecting.

The unexpected question makes me stop in my tracks. I stumble over my own two feet and almost bite my own tongue which is a new low, even for me. If I keep going like this I am never going to beat the clumsy human allegations. At least Rocky is not here. If he’d witnessed my latest embarrassing blunder he would have found ways to tease me about it for a week straight. It’s unfortunate that my class has to see me like this but they are a lot more forgiving and understanding of their ungraceful teacher than my best friend. A fact I like to hold over his head from time to time.
Not that he cares. He maintains that he’s earned the right to mock me as much as he likes after having to watch me stumble and fall repeatedly over the same threshold for four years.
And maybe he’s not wrong.
Don’t ever tell him I said that.

There is no way Grace can take the pebbles on a field trip. At least not without help.

Summary
It all starts with Martyn hitching a ride with Ren to a gig they happen to be playing together. Martyn makes some excuse about finding parking and saving the environment and all that, but really, he never learned to drive, and the bus route he had scoped out looks absolutely miserable, and he’s playing bari on this gig, so biking is right out.
Luckily, Ren agrees, and they really hit it off. Later, at their gig, they really sound good together too, Martyn’s deep, boomy bari sound nestles in under Ren’s lead trumpet playing, supporting it, and they actually blend, which is saying something, for a trumpet and sax.
But the point is, they swap numbers, to coordinate carpooling and gigs and maybe duetting sometimes, and now they text constantly. Martyn ironically sends Ren these awful Instagram reels from alphas who think they’re the shit and don’t understand basic biology, and Ren sends Martyn his Wordle scores, and they just… coexist really well together.
So naturally, the next step for two people coexisting really well together is to go on a road trip and ruin it.
