Summary
Shane can’t look at him, stares at the corner, at the mirror, unseeing, everything a little hazy around the edges. He can’t focus, everything in shapes and colours, his mind not catching the minutiae. It’s like he’s staring into an abyss. His lungs struggle to take in the acrid air around them. He feels separate to his own body, like he’s staring at the situation from somewhere far away.
Then Rozanov is grabbing his face and his fingers are just the right pressure and the touch feels like a life preserver, like he could sink into it, like he could be safe there. Like Rozanov is holding up his whole body in one hand.
But those hands have been on him before and he was left alone, untethered for six months.
He slaps Rozanov’s hand away. Shane takes satisfaction in the surprise splayed across his face. So obvious, even Shane can recognise it.
When Shane’s eyes meet Rozanov’s, the bland disinterest has been shuttered by something he can’t recognise. His face looks both the same and completely unlike it ever has before. Now that their gaze is locked, Shane can’t look away. Doesn’t even blink.
“Fuck. You.”

Summary
Ilya refused to break his eye contact. He saw Shane’s anger, the fire behind his eyes, it was all too familiar. Shane continued talking, “I need you-” He pointed at Ilya, his hand just inches from Ilya’s face. Ilya flinched aggressively but refused to break eye contact.
“Do it,” Ilya said through his teeth, cutting Shane off.
Shane faltered, “What are…” his eyes scanned Ilyas face. Realization hit him like a truck. He quickly stumbled back away from his husband.

Summary
When Ilya finds out of his teammates has been using, his decision to turn him over to coach has the entire team penalized and they lose their momentum right before playoffs. To make matters worse, even after a press release clears the rest of the Raiders of any wrongdoings, the whole league still things Ilya is a cheater. Including Shane's team, who talks about it nonstop until one night he snaps and starts a fight with his own team on the ice.
---
Ilya stepped towards him, hand grazing his elbow to try to get him to loosen up a bit. “You said, earlier, that it was me,” he mumbled. “You fought because of me."“Just a bit,” Shane joked weakly, looking back up at him. “They just- they hate you, Ilya. My parents, my team, my fans. And I hear it so much in the locker room or during practice, but on ice I- I couldn't fucking stand it anymore.”
“Is sweet,” he murmured, threading his hand through Shane’s hair and nudging him to lay his head on his shoulder. “But their words don’t hurt me.”
Shane sighed, nuzzling against the fabric of his shirt for a moment. “Hurts me, though,” he said softly. “I don’t like hearing anyone accuse you of cheating.”
