Is that what he's doing here, Kristoph as his maligned piano? Kristoph readjusts his glasses and then touches his cheek, fingers very light. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah," Phoenix says, clears his throat. "Sorry, just lost in thought."
Kristoph feeds him salad and duck and wine, and Phoenix eats it all out of his hand. Kristoph puts his hands to Phoenix's hair, his shoulders, his thighs. The graceless collapse of it all, and how nothing has really changed; he steps out onto the street still, and the sun glances off the windows the same as it always has. Kristoph is his total comedown, his moon dust, his blister and his isopropyl.
Or, spend enough years in stasis with the same person and things start to go a bit lopsided.

Summary
Link does not think he's suited for a quiet life. He dwells in explosions and fires, weapons and fights, ever since he joined King Rhoam's troops as a young boy after losing his parents. The rest of his garrison regard him as the land's best swordsman, a promising soldier worthy of becoming part of the prestigious Royal Guard. But a quiet life is nonetheless imposed on him after a series of dumb decisions and reckless impulses get him relocated to what must be the most boring, uneventful post in Hyrule.
Or it was, before the pirates arrived. Sea-born creatures like nothing the land had ever seen before; they're smart and cunning and their captain is what nightmares are made of, according to locals. Link is equally as terrified as he is fascinated by them, and try as he may, he can't seem to stay away.

^^Seriously go read it^^Link had just saved Hyrule from Ganondorf, he was told to rest. He didn't know how or what that really was. He half expected to die going against the man corrupted by his lust for power. Something in him knew it wouldn't take long before things would descend again. He could never relax. Zelda was the only one that could ease him by helping him keep busy. He wasn't her personal knight anymore. Not bound by order anymore but bound by his own refusal to live a life outside of service.
Even if he couldn't get a certain red Zora out of his head. Sent him letters of his daily duties and Sidon would send his own letters back (all of which are full of the Zora prince's enthusiasm). But outside of that, Link never addresses what he wants. He's not allowed to want, he's never allowed himself to want, to need, to demand, to be human.
He's always poised to be ready for the next battle.
The next puzzle.
The next time he needs to lay his life down.
It comes as he expects, takes everything from him once more.
