If something were to go wrong because I missed a critical flaw in Grace’s air recycling system or the medical robot’s drug distribution doses or the fucking Taumoeba breeder tanks again, that would be its blood on my already stained hands. I can’t allow it to die on my watch like I did so many others."

So I can't die.
I was in undergrad when I finally couldn't deny it any more. I'd been hit by a car and walked it off with barely a scratch. Though, really, "can't die" was a wild oversimplification of something I still didn't fully understand.
Aka Grace remembers that he's literally indestructible at the worst possible moment. This complicates things.

The room is silent for a moment. I can see her shaking as she waits for me to respond.
“Okay! Thank you for telling me,” I said, calmly. I was a bit out of my depth here. I’ve had queer kids before, of course, but having one come out to me like this was a new experience.
She– he blinks at me, clearly surprised at my anticlimactic reaction. Should I have been more surprised? Enthusiastic? I don’t know how to respond in this situation. I didn’t want to freak him out by freaking out, but what if that was what he wanted? This has got to be a big deal for him. Do I seem uninterested? Crap!
