Jason is not a religious man. Not here, not now, not anymore. He mutters his rosary in the dark, sure, but the words are shaped not by belief but by memory. His prayers are an utterance for a home now long gone, one that might never have existed in the first place. He invokes something he cannot fall back into, something that never held him properly when he pretended it did, something that he once cried out to in the cold winters and harsh nights.
But looking at the man in front of him, Jason doesn't understand how he could ever have called himself a nonbeliever.
