“Need isn’t the purpose, witcher,” Jaskier says, emphasizing the last word just enough to let Geralt know he’s peeved at being addressed by something other than his name.
“Then what would be the purpose, bard?” Geralt says the last word with meaning now just to be contrary. After the poet found in him in the spring for a second year of tailing along and being a nuisance, he seems to feel entitled to cordialities Geralt isn’t willing to afford.
“Because it feels good?” The bard says, as if Geralt is missing something obvious.

Geralt just stares.
“You bought that,” he says, as if the bard has somehow forgotten. Jaskier had waxed poetic for hours on their way to this town about his craving for a sweet bun.
“Yeah?” Jaskier says, a bemused smile on his face. “Are you worried about eating stolen goods?”
No, that isn’t what Geralt’s worried about.

Summary
“Want a hand?” Jaskier asks from his place on the bed. He pauses at picking away at his lute, smiling. “Or two?”
Geralt doesn’t respond and drops his hand, cursing the reveal of discomfort around the bard. They’re three years into whatever it is that makes Jaskier follow him around, and Geralt has begun slipping, showing weakness where he shouldn’t.
“Seriously!” The bard says, sitting up on his knees. “I’ve seen how you walk around all day. You’ve got to be knots all over. Let me give you a massage.” He gives Geralt a wicked look. “I have it on good authority that I have very talented hands.”

He listened to the sounds of the crackling fire, watching the shadows dance on the wall behind the Uchiha, illuminating his face. His features were handsome, one would be a jealous fool to deny that, but there was a delicacy to them Neji couldn’t help but notice. Deep black eyes filled with a mystery Neji could never hope to understand. Not in this lifetime.
“You’ve never requested to meet outside of Otogakure before,” Neji commented, finally breaking the silence between them. “Is there a reason?”
